Court isn't sitting tomorrow (Friday) because of Diwali.

22 Oct 15:32
PB asks for adjournment to consult new documents. Court adjourns until Monday.

22 Oct 15:28
PE: We do make mistake on our statements and we correct them but I cannot remember.

22 Oct 15:26

PE asked to read the affidavit, in which he says he examined the firearm and components. Findings that the cartridge was fired from that firearm.

But Serfontein's positively linked the cartridge with a 38 Special revolver. PB: Where did this revolver come from? PE: I wonder if he did not make a mistake and rectify it again.

PB: If there was a mistake. That mistake would only have been picked up after the day the original affidavit was made.

22 Oct 15:14
PE consider that hand not necessarily against chest when shot went off. PB: Are you contesting evidence of Dr Verster?

22 Oct 15:13
PB reads Qwabe evidence, that Mngeni was sitting. Possible for someone in original vehicle to be seated, deliver contact shot?

22 Oct 15:13
Scenario presented by defence, that shooter leaned into door with upper body, is possible, PE concedes.

22 Oct 15:12
Scenario presented by defence, that shooter leaned into door with upper body, is possible, PE concedes.

22 Oct 15:07
PB: Videos aimed at creating picture positioning shooter at seat instead of door, not so? Defence case is Qwabe shot from door.

22 Oct 15:07
PE: Contusions found on legs of deceased, shooter tried to hold leg, other leg free to kick.

22 Oct 15:01
What I am putting to you is patently correct but you are steadfastly refusing to make that concession - PB

22 Oct 14:58
PB: It is clear that your evidence is false. You are not holding the tape measure against the seat.

22 Oct 14:57
You are miles away from being an objective witness, PB tells PE.

22 Oct 14:55
See this summary below of proceedings this morning.

22 Oct 14:49

22 Oct 14:40
PE concedes that the defence's measurements of Mngeni's arm could be correct and accepts the measurements.

22 Oct 14:39
PE: I did not realise the arm measurement of Mngeni would be that critical.

22 Oct 14:33
PE's credibility in spotlight. Questions on whether measurements of the Sharan he'd investigated, are accurate. The measurements were taken about two weeks ago.

22 Oct 14:29
Engelbrecht has done over 1 000 reports - but Botha tears into his methods - photo of seat doesn't show defect, not same seat.

22 Oct 14:24

22 Oct 14:23
PE says he had access to post mortem photos in 2012.

22 Oct 14:20
The defence were only given PE's findings last night.

22 Oct 14:17
"Feel kinda sorry for Engelbrecht, being torn apart by defence - probably didn't have much time, resources to do a proper job," tweets Roy McKenzie.

22 Oct 14:17
Proceedings have resumed. Engelbrecht still under cross examination.

22 Oct 12:54
Court adjourns for lunch.

22 Oct 12:51

PE: If deceased was on the back seat in an upright position - easier to make contact shot.

Judge calls for adjournment...

22 Oct 12:47
PE: the deceased's upper body was not on [the] middle back seat. But concede this should have been tilted forward.

22 Oct 12:42
Defence also independently conducted ballistics tests, will be brought in later, Botha says.

22 Oct 12:40
Judge asks PE how tests conducted, surely measurements must be exact? He agrees.

22 Oct 12:38
PE looking decidedly uncomfortable in the witness stand as defence rips his ballistic tests' evidence apart.

22 Oct 12:33
Botha: New rear seat has armrests, previous one didn't...

22 Oct 12:27
Where are the measurements of the tests done? PE looks at his notes. Mopp says these were disclosed to the defence, Botha disagrees.

22 Oct 12:27

22 Oct 12:26
Botha hammering PE for doing tests on vehicle different to original.

22 Oct 12:25

PE: Would have been difficult to get original vehicle. Tests [were] done on different model Sharan, seats in normal position.

22 Oct 12:23

PE: Tests done with seats in normal seating position.

Botha: What did you want to achieve measuring a vehicle different to the original?

22 Oct 12:20
Botha: Front left seat moved much further forward than driver's seat when shooting happened - looking at the crime scene pics.

22 Oct 12:14

Botha: Surely the vehicle could not have had same seating as when deceased shot?

PE admits he knew it wasn't same...

22 Oct 12:12
PE explains sponges came from seat of VW Sharan - had to remove leather to get to the sponge. Shows them in court.

22 Oct 12:11
PE admits he recently took measurements of same vehicle, not sure if it had same seats, suspects they [were] replaced.

22 Oct 12:09
PE says he can't say for sure which hand was used to shoot, but the left hand would have been easier.

22 Oct 12:08
Shrien Dewani [SD] leans forward in dock as he strains to hear the interaction between Botha and Engelbrecht [PE].

22 Oct 12:07
Translation:"adv Pieter Botha is in top form. Ripping witness PE to pieces"

22 Oct 12:03
Botha refers back to evidence - where did you refer to trajectory of projectile? Why did you give this evidence under oath?

22 Oct 12:01
PE: According to facts I had in 2012, the shot could have come from left front. Trajectory and pictures of wounds supported this.

22 Oct 12:01
Botha ripping into PE's version of events - how could you misunderstand question, [and] give that evidence?

22 Oct 11:58
Botha: You were not perhaps trying to mislead the court at the time? No, says PE.

22 Oct 11:55
Botha: How could you as an expert witness give that version under oath when your own version differs, don't have all facts?

22 Oct 11:53
PE's testimony in Mngeni trial read by Botha: Testified it was difficult to say where shot fired from, dep[endent] on position.

22 Oct 11:51
Botha: Qwabe testified that Mngeni fired the shot from the front left seat. Mngeni said (driver) Qwabe fired the shot - dispute over this.
