Law society condemns cop killings

2013-07-30 11:31

Johannesburg - The Cape Law Society has condemned the killing of police officers in the Western Cape.

"All must condemn the killing of [SA Police Service] members, our only bastion against anarchy, and our government must take all legal steps to stop the attacks on our men in blue," the CLS said in a statement on Tuesday.

Earlier, Western Cape police said another policeman had been shot dead at his home in Cape Town, in the third police killing in the city since Sunday.

Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana said the 34-year-old sergeant was shot dead on Monday night at his home in Montclaire, Mitchells Plain.

He said two men knocked on the door, and when his wife opened the door, they asked for the policeman.

"The suspects fired several shots at him and he died at the scene. It is alleged that the suspects entered the house and demanded a safe in which there was a firearm. Thereafter, they fled the scene on foot."

The policeman was stationed in Philippi East. He was married with a 5-year-old daughter.

No arrests had been made.

Cape Town needs serious help when it comes to this issue, its now or never.... Every week we heard about cop killing in Cape Town, I'm sure the influence of this is drugs!!!!

I agree with Willie. Police Officers are being killed by armed gangsters. The police are here to protect and help the community, not to go around shooting and killing people they think are gangsters. If the gangsters want to go fight, they can do it with themselves, out of the way, in the middle of the desert, with nobody else around who can get hurt. That, or send in the army, get rid of these gangsters, and show that there is law and order. Nobody has patience or tolerance for these rebellious uncivilized gangsters anymore.

Elbie, I think what eff off is inferring is to send down those Police involved in Marikana, and order them to shoot everybody in sight!

they can condemn till the cows come home, not until the death sentence is reinstated will this problem resolve itself

This is what happens when the western cape cops hire out their guns to criminals. I feel for his family.

My sympathies with the policeman - but when I read that the Law Society condemns the action, I have to wonder what bandwagon they are attempting to climb on to. They are probably the most useless organisation in the country . . .

what the hell does condemn solve? take off the velvet gloves that was used to write the constitution (constipation of law &order)and rewrite it with steel gloves on, a society cannot function when everyone can do as they please, it will always evolve into anarchy if they don't know just how far they can push the law

how can no arrests be made - has this 'gang land' become so revered that no-one dare enter with the full force of the law? Utterly baffled...

      Michael Ross - 2013-07-30 13:48

My sympathies to the officer's famility. I must note, with interest, that the following article appears relevant: http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/New-spanking-law-in-the-works-20130728 The law society is condemning these undisciplined, uncivilized, barbaric activities (attacking / killing), yet the ANC is calling for greater lack of discipline? There are already rules that were set in place after 1994 to do away with corporal punishment, and spanking in schools, even in the home, child abuse was decried as absolute evil. Now we have youth who grow up without discipline and direction, who think they are rulers of the world, and accountable to no-one and nothing, not even the law. What do the ANC expect? What does ANYONE expect? If the state interferes with your family and tells you how you can and cannot run your life, or raise your children / family (without being abusive), then you are not a free citizen in a democratic country - you are a puppet of a Communist/Socialist Dictatorship! Next thing you know, the ANC will try tax you for each child you have, or adopt China's policy of 1-child per couple, or say you can only own 1 car, or 1 pet, and tax students who go to college / university to study because they are opening greater career benefits by studying. Do away with this rotten cancer called ANC, do away with the state running your life for you, do away with the destruction of this fine country. Remove the ANC - Throw them out like garbage! Vote in 2014!!
