2012-11-23 08:45

Mbombela - Five lecturers and four students at a Further Education and Training college in Mpumalanga have been arrested for corruption, the Hawks said on Friday.

The students were allegedly found in possession of leaked exam papers at their residence on Wednesday, Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

The lecturers allegedly sold them the exams.

"The lecturers were arrested while on duty. Computers and some exam papers have been seized."

Ramaloko said the lecturers were not registered with the SA Council of Educators.

The group will appear in the Witbank Magistrate's Court on Friday.

With a pass mark of only 30%, these guys must really be dumb to have to cheat to get even this pathetic mark.

      luther.kingsley.5 - 2012-11-23 09:07

Agreed, 30% pass rate is a mockery and I will never ever employ a person who has not passed with at least 65%. Then we have this bull$hit, I'm speechless.

      joe.irwin.50 - 2012-11-23 09:28

So now our students don't even need 30%. All that is required is a few rands and a and a connections phone number. This way at least 70% is guaranteed.

It won't be long before they can pass just by spelling their name correctly.

Luther, not only is the pass mark extremely low at 30% for some subjects, but also the standard of the material is very low. the pass mark on exams should thus literally be closer 80% !

  • mshiniboys - 2012-11-23 09:49

why does it have to leak for people to pass? does it mean they were not being taught for the whole year and are these the kind of people who are going to lead this country again? I know my opinion will have a short life span on this platform but I am not surprised considering the current affairs in the country where people are fighting each other for a chance to be the first one in line to rip this country apart.

I dont really get this, why do people have to cheat to succeed? Especially when it comes to the FET exams, i wanted to do it and did the course soon after I completed my matric on my way to the exam i met a student from CJC Central Johannesburg College revising and she was revising a question paper and when I got to the exam room i noticed it was exactly the same question paper that she was revising, i was extremely angry and felt batrayed that as soon as I left that place i went straight to apply for a BSc at Wits university coz those items created to help people are just jokes now, people use them to sleep at home knowing they will cheat then get a certificate n work....its a shame. The DoFET after all deducted marks from everyone after they realised that some people cheated, which is really bad and a shame to some average students coz they will never pass because their co's cheat so they will resort to cheating too....

  • Dogmaticmad - 2012-11-23 12:14

Publish their names I want to see whom they are talking about. Or as usual is it common sense!!

  • hournarable.emmanuel - 2012-11-23 12:37

  • marilyn.docherty.9 - 2012-11-23 14:11

The stealing/selling of exam papers seems to be a regular occurance in Mpumalanga! Must be a sorry state of affairs if they only need 30% to pass!
