Pretoria - Letters of expulsion will be handed to ANC Youth League members who went to court to try to stop the national congress, secretary general Njabulo Nzuza said on Thursday.

"The [ANCYL] congress took a decision that people who took the ANC to court must be expelled," he told reporters in Pretoria.

"Letters of expulsion will be sent to those whose names appear on court papers."

He said the league would go through the court papers and pick out the names of those involved.

Those were the members who would be expelled.

"We are not going to be hypothetical about it."

The expulsion letters had not yet been sent.

The day before the long-awaited ANCYL congress last month a group of disgruntled members from the North West lodged an urgent application in the High Court in Pretoria in a bid to stop the congress.

They alleged that there had been irregularities during branch general meetings and people were excluded from attending the congress.

Their court bid was unsuccessful and dismissed.
