Libode hijacking; 2 arrested

Johannesburg - Two men were arrested on Sunday in connection with a car hijacking in Libode, Eastern Cape police said.

The men aged 29 and 31 accosted a driver at gunpoint on the R61 just off the N2 freeway into Libode and demanded his vehicle on Saturday around 20:00, Mzukisi Fatyela said.

The two were arrested on Sunday during an operation in the area and the stolen car was recovered and a 9mm pistol confiscated.

Meanwhile, two other men were arrested for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

The two, aged 27 and 30, were also found during the operation allegedly with a revolver, 9mm pistol and ammunition.

The firearms' numbers were filed off.

All the arrested men were expected to appear in the Libode Magistrate's Court on Monday.
