Life in jail for KwaZulu Natal rapist

2013-04-10 20:35
Johannesburg - A man has been jailed for life for raping a woman in Dududu, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

"He was sentenced after the judge heard how he raped the 22-year-old victim in January 2011," said police spokesperson Thulani Zwane.

Sizwe Aaron Msomi, 28, appeared in the Scottburgh Regional Court on Tuesday.

He raped the woman at her home, took her cellphone and fled.

She reported him to the police five months later, and Msomi was arrested within a few days.

"This conviction and sentence serve as a victory against crimes committed against vulnerable women and children," provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said.
