Pietermaritzburg - Life sentences imposed on three Durban killers were confirmed by a full bench of three judges in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court on Thursday.

Simphiwe Khanyile, 24, Emandla Khumalo, 22, and Sifiso Ntuli, 25, were convicted by the KwaZulu-Natal High Court of murdering a worshipper as he emerged from a Durban mosque in January 2012.

The victim was shot in the head.

The court found that Khanyile drove recklessly to evade pursuers who signalled them to stop. He jumped a red traffic light and collided with other vehicles.

The court found that the victim had been shot in cold blood and that his wife had been left without support. The court found that the accused had not played open cards in court and had shown no remorse.

They were first time offenders.

Rejecting leave to appeal against the sentence, Judge Jerome Mnguni said people who committed this kind of crime should expect robust sentences.
