Johannesburg - A man and a woman were injured when their light aircraft crashed into the Kleinbrak River near George, Southern Cape on Monday evening, paramedics said.

"It appeared that a man and a woman had been travelling on a light aircraft, possibly a microlight, when they came into difficulty and the craft went down," said ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson.

"They both landed in the water along with the light aircraft." Jackson said the woman, who was in her late 20s, suffered serious injuries and had to be rushed to a hospital in Mossel Bay.

The man, in his 40s, was treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital.
