Johannesburg - A man accused of killing a train driver in Makhado in 2012 will appear in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate's Court on Friday, Limpopo police said.

Manyere Jerry Shuma, 22, was arrested in October for housebreaking, police spokesperson Ronel Otto said on Thursday.

He had since been accused of raping and strangling Nare Mashamaite, 47, at the Makhado railway station in June, when she and her assistant stopped a train to inspect what they thought was brake failure.

Mashamaite's assistant fled unharmed.

Transnet said it expected workers to march from the Makhado railway station to court on Friday at 09:00, in protest against Mashamaite's murder.
