Limpopo the safest province - study

2014-12-30 16:38

Johannesburg - Limpopo is the safest province in the country, according to a study released this week by the SA Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR).

"Limpopo emerged as the safest province overall and the Western Cape the most dangerous," the SAIRR said in a statement.

Its study measured crime rankings according to statistics on murder, robbery, and assault.

While the Western Cape fared badly when it came to protecting its residents from harm, the province was tops in terms of health, service delivery, and social well-being.

However, overall, Gauteng emerged as the country's best province, with the highest rankings in economic growth, employment rates, and education.

"Gauteng is the best province in South Africa to live in, followed, in descending order, by the Western Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Free State, the North West and the Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Eastern Cape," said the report’s author Thuthukani Ndebele.

The Eastern Cape fared the worst when it came to service delivery, measured by factors such as access to piped water and refuse removal.

Hahahahahahaha......who the hell made that "study:??

      Mike Heyns - 2014-12-30 17:05

Well, this is surely a "no brainer"? Limpopo is also the most illiterate province in SA, I therefore challenge the authenticity of their records. In contrast thereto, the opposite applies to WC. If logic prevails, when last did we hear anything that happened in Limpopo? (With the exception of the clown & Co.)?

      Tshaga Tetelo - 2014-12-30 17:38

      DAs well run province

      nyasha.matodzi - 2014-12-30 18:51

Mike Heynes, the illiterate speak without facts and that's what you just did. Better do some research on that subject... The article is about crime rates you D A... Farm killings, Rape, car high jacking etc, are not as bad as in the other provinces, that's SAIRR.

      nyasha.matodzi - 2014-12-30 18:53

Ettienne, your answer in in the article... Read!!!

      Mike Heyns - 2014-12-30 19:01

@Nyasha: Pardon me, but I'm not clear with your comment? Please elaborate?

The DA do not control the police force who are paid to serve and protect us.

      lacrimosewolf - 2014-12-30 17:45

Ja well you don't have to come here. Go to Limpopo instead. Or maybe just stay where you are and make your local govt do some work, instead of running away from the problems.

      Om Nom Nom - 2014-12-30 22:38

Tinyiko "Brightness" Novaci. Maybe you also knew it! knew it! that the police, who's job it is to prevent said violence, falls under the jurisdiction of the ANC government. You probably also knew it! knew it! that the DA asked the defence force for help to quell the violence but was turned down by guess who? Yes you guessed it guessed it... the ANC government. And lastly take a guess who took the DA to court (& failed(surprize-surprize)) to prevent them from launching a commission of inquiry into the policing activities (or the lack thereof) of the police in Khayalitsha??? Once again your useless, corrupt ANC government!!!!!!! Now off you go to draw your circle around the ANC's name on the next ballot paper, you well informed, intelligent votha.

      Nikki Downes - 2014-12-31 00:40

DA pushes hard to have every case recorded. It doesn't mean crime is worse. It just means they are reporting it all unlike some other areas who have police who are illiterate.

      Om Nom Nom - 2014-12-31 11:53

Enathi... hello, is anybody home? You won, 20 years ago! The guys in the SADF are now your brothers. Wtf????????? Besides, if you don't want them there all you have to do is behave like a normal, good citizen of SA. Simple really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Moses Maropola - 2014-12-30 16:51

Hahahaaaa. Halala limpopo. Its funny how white people think the WC belongs to them. Yuck. People, statistics show limpopo is the safest. Not the richest, not the best but the safest. The researchers have nothing to gain by saying limpopo is number 1.

      lacrimosewolf - 2014-12-30 17:48

Well maybe it's the safest because they've given up reporting crime

      Tshililo Siobo - 2014-12-30 18:00

And remember the survey has been conducted and brought to you by the DA....Exploiters of the masses since times in memorial. Tjooooo Limpopo is Juju's Province by the way. Soon there will death penalty reintroduced in that Province

  • deepchund.ramchurren - 2014-12-30 16:55

Is the author of the article confused, or News 24 reporter confused. The article is about the safest province, that means the survey covered crime. Was service delivery (piped water, provision of health & social services, growth, education) all somehow linked to crime to draw up the final survey conclusions. In any case, the whole country is in a mess.

  • Pack Age - 2014-12-30 16:56

  • Wally Cleaver - 2014-12-30 17:01

Lol, always knew the Western Cape was as clean as urinating on a public wall. Until racial profiling against Black people stops, it'll always be sh*t.

      Notorious-Negro - 2014-12-30 18:10

Well gee Jonathan, tell us how you really feel.

  • Ian - 2014-12-30 17:04

Ha Ha Ha, Has April fools come early, WP The most dangerous. Limpomppomp the most safest, Why don't you CancER kfc chompers go spin your BS elsewhere, Shouldn't be too hard, you do keep your supportas as thick as mud anyway. Why don't you take your circus act and go visit the north eastern suburbs of Joburg or are you too poo scared of the Nigerians selling crack to school kids, MORONS, Wake up man

      Enathi Magobodi - 2014-12-30 17:16

Go to Khayelitsha, Phillipy, Gugulethu.... then ull know whos important to DA

      Ian - 2014-12-30 17:30

And what areas do your ANC service, even the leafy suburbs of Joburg and Pretoria and a potholed, crime ridden hell hole,We wont even mention the poor areas and informal settlements in CancER land, take your BS and spin it elsewhere chump

      Enathi Magobodi - 2014-12-30 17:37

U expect the ANC to service everyone in their provinces, but the DA cant do the same in WC, those areas were design by appartheid to be like that. We still leaving in that legacy

      Ian - 2014-12-30 17:49

Oh of course yes, you would, After 20 years its all because apartheid, you lot crack me up, I guess when your bunch are too busy ripping off the taxpayers, There's no time to service anything, What a bunch

      Aaron Aden - 2014-12-30 18:03

Enathi please explain to me how poor people living in poor neglected areas becomes a DA service issue... those places where worse when the ANC ran the show yes in the Western Cape. When the ANC ran the show there where far more visible shacks now they're replaced with houses. Please show us where the ANC excelled in this regard pot black much! In the real world people work for their keep - if I didn't study or work hard I'd be in a poor area with substandard services - why because I contribute less to the countries fiscus and pay less to live in that area. Services create demand hence property prices go up hence wealthier areas are created. In Cape Town today these areas aren't segregated for black, coloured and white in fact I have many black people in my complex in leafy Tokai. You wont find many whites in the places you mentioned because we would have an extremely high chance of getting robbed, killed etc. Wouldn't you agree this has very little to do with the DA? and regarding crime the DA has asked government to assist in this matter as the national government control SAPS/Military while local government control the metro police. How do you suppose the metro police deal with this gangster issue on their own that has been around before the DA ran WC? on top of this gangsters are just released due to our poor judiciary system.

      Madimetja Dmax Mashao - 2014-12-30 19:58

Yeah right Ian, when the SAIRR finds that your beloved DA ruled WC is the best when it comes to service delivery, health, standard of living then they're not spinning BS, but when Limpopo is found to be the safest then it's the whole thing is BS, what a hypocrite you are, not much different to the CANCER KFC chompers.

      Enathi Magobodi - 2014-12-30 20:24

Aden i dint complet ur essay is to long for a black woman to read, but look 20 years is not enough to undo what has been done in more than 100 years. That is also visible in ur mind, as long as u have white supremecy consept in ur mind then u should know a lot is still to be done

      Enathi Magobodi - 2014-12-30 21:44

U not getting my point we r striving to get there but the sytem is working against that

  • Jadwiga Richmond - 2014-12-30 17:04

  • Moses Maropola - 2014-12-30 17:07

You cant even write limpopo. Its there in the article. Shame

      Ian - 2014-12-30 17:14

sure I can, limping to destruction, see, easy

  • Stephan Francois Bouwer - 2014-12-30 17:09

Wow, someone took the results, and written an article to make the Western cape look as bad as possible. All these facts are true, but the way they are presented here. They could have lead with Gauteng is the best province, but no, lets say the Western cape is the worst first, and just casually mention that they are actually second best...

      Notorious-Negro - 2014-12-30 18:14

The Article's heading says "Limpopo the safest province"

  • coswecanfly - 2014-12-30 17:12

Poorest yet the safest province. Yet another example that poverty DOES NOT LEAD TO CRIME!

      Margaret Cox - 2014-12-30 17:27

Or that there is nothing to steal...

  • joe.gomes1 - 2014-12-30 17:15

And who runs the police in the WC???

  • Clinton Birch - 2014-12-30 17:22

It shows that poverty does not cause crime. Crime is caused by the disparity between rich and poor. Those that do not have see those that have and seek to get more than they have. When everyone is poor, then crime decreases. Visit Soweto and compare the amount of home security compared to Sandton.

  • Ayo Kolawole - 2014-12-30 17:44

Was the population of each province factored into this study?...saying Limpopo has less crime than say Gauteng means nothing considering there are more people in Gauteng than Limpopo...

  • Em Jay Ramohai - 2014-12-30 17:50

Isn't ironing that Limpopo has a least of White's and WC has more... Just saying

      Alex Vincent - 2014-12-30 17:56

Ok let's use your logic and apply it to the whole world. North America and europe have the most amount of whites and Africa has the most about of blacks. Do you still want to follow that logic?

      Em Jay Ramohai - 2014-12-30 18:09

I think that's irrelevant. But if you want to entertain it, give references then we debate

      Sino Msane - 2014-12-30 18:15

Google worst 10 cities in the world none of them is in africa

      Bernard Rother - 2014-12-30 19:46

Em Jay, what you appear to be saying is that if Limpopo had more whites then the crime rate would be higher. Would that be result of black atrocities on whites?? Just trying to follow your logic, or lack thereof.

      Em Jay Ramohai - 2014-12-30 20:25

@Bernard, there is a perception that where there are lot of black people there is high rate of crime. So this study shows is quite an opposite. Crime is not a race thing.

  • Kalawa Sledgehammer - 2014-12-30 17:53
