Mbombela - A rape trial of an Mpumalanga parolee could not be heard when Eskom implemented load shedding in the Nkomazi area near the Swazi and Mozambican border on Thursday.

The accused, Lucky Sibiya, 31, of Zibokwane village, pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape when he appeared in the Tonga Regional Court.

"The court was ready for the trial but due to load shedding it has to be postponed. Sibiya, please come back to this same court next month to start your trial," Magistrate Edgar Moletsane told the accused.

Sibiya, who was expected to be in prison until 2018 after being convicted of robbery some time back, was released on parole in 2011.

He was rearrested on January 27 last year after being accused of raping a 25-year-old woman who lives in his village.

Magistrate Edgar Moletsane postponed the case to June 11 for trial.
