Pietermaritzburg - Wembly College pupil Deante Swart (9) was crowned Miss Princess of the World in an international pageant that was held in Turkey.

Deante first took the title of overall Face of South Africa and was crowned Miss Petite Zululand before taking the crown as Miss Princess of the World.

Caroly Botha, director of pageants South Africa, said: “I was with her at this event and was proud to be one of the judges for the event as well. Deante competed with contestants from all around the world aged five to 24 years. The contestants were judged in their traditional outfits, evening gowns and she had to showcase a talent which consisted of some gumboot dancing to bring in a true South African style to her item.”

During this competition, Deante took away lots of prizes. She was awarded Miss TV star of the Universe, best of the best talent, best dress as well as model and photo model of the World.

Headmaster of Wembley College and also a father to Deante, Dederick Swart, said: “I feel very proud both as a parent and headmaster. Deante has brought honour to the Wembley College family and we are humbled by her achievements. We are also very excited by her prospects in the modelling field. It was a great privilege to have attended the beauty pageant in Turkey and to have been part of her journey to the crowning.”

Deante said: “I am humbled by this incredible journey that God has put on my path and then to still have been blessed to receive all these amazing titles.”

Her crown has made her aware of charity organisations.

“Please support me to make a change by inviting me to charity and community events. Every small change can make a difference,” she said.

“Deante is an extremely independent child … We are immensely proud of her and how her school has developed her potential and her talents,” said her dad.
