2012-01-17 20:07

Bloemfontein - The Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court has imposed lengthy prison sentences on two men who raped a Free State woman, police said on Tuesday.

Sergeant Thabo Litabe said Thabo Thebeagae, 31, was sentenced to life imprisonment and his co-accused, Mosiwa Kamaqele, 25, to 20 years imprisonment for raping the woman in 2007.

The two attacked and raped her at a house in Phase 10, near Bloemfontein.

Afterwards she ran away and asked for help from neighbours who reported the matter to the police.

Sentence is still to short and what will they learn in during this time. Lekker man lekker

Twenty years is a very long time - but only if they serve their full sentence.

Stiff laws in Bloem compared to Pietermaritzburg. Ex cop gets 23 years for rape and murder. While these guys get Life and 20 years for rape. Sentences are not consistant with the crimes.

Mainly the judge, but true not consistent.

And they will be out in no time. If Alison Botha's rapists are up for parole already then these guys aren't going to sit for very long are they?

      Louise - 2012-01-17 20:46

Yeah, agreed - should certain crimes not have standardised sentencing of sorts? I realise that each case hase its own unique circumstances, but at least minimum sentences nationally for certain crimes...?

That is so awesome!!! Now if only the rest of SA can follow this example. Rape is not any less of a crime.

So? Whats the point? You have 2 disgusting and broken human beings that dont fit in society - like sharks trying to kill humans and we are describing the water. Thabo Thebeagae, Mosiwa Kamaqele, Fry them FFS!!!

A life sentence with a very early death would be better.

  • duncan.cramer - 2012-01-18 07:10

    I Don't Think So.......

  • Buti - 2012-01-18 08:05

They will still rape in prison, remove the two b.... that will be good unbearable sentence in their life.

  • Sechaba - 2012-01-18 08:12

i say life imprisonment for rape cases

  • Lana - 2012-01-18 08:50

Not good enough...they never serve the full sentence. Now the taxpayers must look after them. No...clear our country from this scum, they should not have a 20 year holiday on the tax payers expense. They should have gotten a death sentence.

  • Patsy - 2012-01-18 10:19

Should be life without parole. Creatures like that don't change and if all we hear about prison life is true, they'll probably come out even worse.

  • henriette.louw - 2012-02-04 09:29

Will Government OPEN their eyes and see that the death sentence needs to be re-instated? Rape of kids, mothers, murders... I have read too many of these stories today and it really breaks my heart. And the sad thing is that even though the perpetrators are sentenced to life imprisonment the victim still pays for their "boarding and lodging" in prison everytime they make a purchase at a shop, get their salary every month and pays tax. WHEN???? Probably only when it happens to one of the ministers kids, but then again they are surrounded by guards at all times...
