2012-10-19 13:45

Johannesburg - A Lonmin mineworker will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court on Friday in connection with murders at the mining hostels in Marikana, North West police said.

"Yesterday [Thursday] police... arrested a 27-year-old suspect in one of the Lonmin shafts," Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

Another Lonmin platinum mine worker, Dangile Mpotye, 35, who was arrested earlier in the week, appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court on Thursday and was released on bail.

He will appear in court again on 25 October.

"[Both men] are suspected of killing their co-workers during the ugly Marikana unrest; they are both charged with murder..." said Ngubane.

He said he could not go into detail about the murder cases.
