Johannesburg - Three people have won the lottery in the past four weeks, national lottery operator Gidani said on Thursday.

"It took four weeks for South Africa to have three additional people in its list of multi-millionaires. Luck truly follows the hopeful," spokesperson Dudu Ndendwa said in a statement.

A Limpopo man, believed to be in his 50s, won the R24m Powerball Jackpot on Friday.

He said he chose his numbers randomly and would use the money to buy spectacles, a car, and a house.

Another man, who is self-employed in the transport industry, was Saturday's R15m lottery jackpot winner.

The 40-year-old, from Gauteng, discovered through a Sunday newspaper that he had won the jackpot.

"I was numb. I was overcome by a mixture of excitement, confusion and fear," he said.

After double checking his ticket several times, he told his family that he had won.

"I kept my ticket safely in my wallet and kept it with me all the time," he said.

He said he would use the money for his business, to put his three children to the best schools, give some to his relatives, and invest the rest.

A third man, aged 31 and also from Gauteng, won the R15m jackpot on 30 August. He intended using his fortune on a new home, on his family, and investing the rest.

He wanted to lead a normal life.
