Lotz family flooded with new info

2012-03-22 09:35

Cape Town - The family of murdered Stellenbosch student Inge Lotz has been flooded by people calling in with information about the highly-publicised murder seven years ago.

This comes after Professor Jan Lotz offered a R1m reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Inge’s killer, the Cape Times reported.

Numerous calls had apparently been received regarding various aspects of the case and all leads were being followed up, said attorney Johan Jordaan, who is dealing with the calls.

He said information was coming in from “all over”.

Inge’s boyfriend, Fred van der Vyver was charged with her murder, but acquitted in 2007.

During the trial, shocking revelations were made about police inefficiency and clumsiness while investigating the murder.

If I believed that I had pertinent information regarding a crime I would immediately report it to the police. I would not wait for a R1m reward before I did something with my information. These people, if they genuinely have information, are blood suckers.

      rbphiri - 2012-03-22 10:29

leeches indeed, how i would love the irony of them being robbed of that R1m. And in return someone phoning them to say if you give me a R1m i will provide you with information as to who the robbers are.

  • Zuz67 - 2012-03-22 09:56

This I find very shocking. Why will people keep quiet, and no out of the blue everybody has a clue or two! The girl died, sad, very sad, no money will ever bring her back. Yes the person who did this needs to be put behind bars, but why open yourself up to more hurt and pain!!

      Marion - 2012-03-22 10:19

@Zuz67 - I watch the program 'Disappeared' and the loved ones of those who disappear cannot find peace until they know exactly what happened to their loved one. Guess this is along the same lines although it is known the girl was murdered. Cannot get closure until the perpetrator is behind bars.

      esther.badenhorst - 2012-03-22 10:25

Yeah this is probably their way of seeking closure. But agree with you that now everyone has a clue or two all of a sudden.

  • Wendy - 2012-03-22 10:08

Amazing what people will do for money! no integrity anymore.

      Sindiwe - 2012-03-22 22:34

Wendy, people still have integrity and it is not all about the money. People now supply information because they have a dedicated audience who is willing and able to investigate the info that they bring to the table.

      Silvana - 2012-03-23 06:17

@Sindiwe. I don't quite get what you're saying. The girl was murdered 7 years ago and people are only coming forward with information now after the father offered a R1million reward. I don't think a "dedicated audience" is their motive.

  • Linda - 2012-03-22 10:19

Very few are genuine calls with correct information, others are made in order to get this cash. Very surprising though that people with information were not willing to help this family who lost their love one! Just tax this amount using 40% rate!

      kiri - 2012-03-22 12:22

Doesn't matter who did it or whether they can be punished or not - just knowing who did it will help these people.

  • Sue - 2012-03-22 10:22

The info now is too little too late, Fred can't be judged twice, and I think he did it.

      sandra.j.rennie - 2012-03-22 10:44

Sue I totally agree with you ! Why do you think he got the best of the best defence attorneys from America !

      Linda - 2012-03-22 11:55

If you took the time and trouble to read "Fruit of a Poison Tree" you will realise that Fred could not possibly have murdered Inge Lotz - he had a water tight alibi. Dont you love it when people judge without knowing all there is to know about the subject.

      Casper - 2012-03-22 12:36

Wow, Sanra J Rennie, what a brilliant comment!! In other words the courts only need to look at your defence attorney and if he is "from the best" the accused must be found guilty, finish and klaar! Thank you for this fantastic info!! I'm sure the courts will follow your brilliant suggestion!!!! And if I ever INNOCENTLY get charged with murder, I'll just remember to get the worst defence attorney to defend me and I will therefore be FREEEEE!!!! I'm sure you will make a fantastic detective - please join immediately!!! PS - By the way, Fred's defence attorney was from South Africa.

      Marius - 2012-03-22 13:33

Ha Ha Ha Ha @ Casper!! I couldn't say it better! Btw: My father knows the Van De Vyfers - Fred's father had to sell EVERYTHING to be able to afford to prove his son's innocence. In other word: The police's incompetence ruined the family financially.

      Silvana - 2012-03-23 06:23

@sandra.j.rennie. Sorry to burst your bubble. It was a forensics expert they brought in from the USA, because our guys are incompetent. That's not just my opinion. Prof Klatsow has exposed the inadequacy of our forensics department many times.

      Elmaré Koekemoer - 2013-03-08 01:16

I hope that u or any off u family never get wrongly accused off any crime.

  • ardenharvey - 2012-03-22 10:22

Somebody is hiding something and if nothing has come out of the woodwork yet, maybe this will ruffle some feathers! Maybe somebody bragged about the killing, maybe a girlfriend of a gang member know's something! Perhaps the R 1M will be enough for someone to speak. Yes it is sad that is has come to a reward; but it is an effective method in getting more leads... FBI, NYPD, SAPS all offer rewards for high profile crimes that cannot be solved...

      Silvana - 2012-03-23 06:25

@ardenharvey. I think you're right. Somebody is hiding something. LOL

  • Trevor - 2012-03-22 10:32

She should offer a million for the one that kills her daughters murderer

  • shandukane.moshatana - 2012-03-22 10:59

those who say have info should also be arrested for keeping it.

  • Gideon - 2012-03-22 11:04

    Voorspoed Prof. Lotz!

  • Dewald - 2012-03-22 12:45

After careful and deliberate consideration of all the facts in this case I have come to the conclusion that the people of the modern world are f.cked beyond any rehabilitation..

  • Bernice - 2012-03-22 12:49

It is so sad that people will use any exscuse in the book to get there hands on some cash. This poor man is so desperate for closure and is willing to do the job our cops are supposed be doing. You are all disgusting human beings.

  • smohloli - 2012-03-22 14:12

i find it utterly disturbing that a price had to be put on this before people came forward, that can only mean we are a selfish nation where its every dog for himself, hope one of these selfish 'informers' has some vital info though...

  • smohloli - 2012-03-22 14:17

actually, charge these 'informers' with obstruction of justice, surely if u keep quiet about a crime u r denying someone justice?

  • Cynthia - 2012-03-22 16:34

Isn't it amazing what the almight Rand can do.

  • Cynthia - 2012-03-22 16:41

If this information has been withheld all this time and is only coming to light now with the offer of R1M, then I hope his/her conscience will let him/her say "Thanks but no thanks".

  • jerome.burt - 2012-03-22 17:10

Read Dr Klatzkow's Book (the forensic scientist)and you will understand what went on behind the scenes.

  • annelize.jerling - 2012-03-22 18:36

Pathetic that all of a sudden people come forward now?? Do they smell moola?? How on earth did they not disclose this to the authorities seven years ago?

  • Silvana - 2012-03-23 06:06

It's sickening that people come forward only after a reward is posted for information. We have lost our humanity.

  • Silvana - 2012-03-23 06:10

"Inge’s boyfriend, Fred van der Vyver was charged with her murder, but acquitted in 2007. During the trial, shocking revelations were made about police inefficiency and clumsiness while investigating the murder." This why we cannot even consider re-introducing the death penalty.

  • colin.chester1 - 2012-03-23 07:45

Speaks volumes about hum an nature doesn't it... A family is grieving..Someone is accused of a crime..Yet NO ONE comes forward?? Suddenly you attach a million rand price tag, and people fall over themselves? There is no hope for the human race

  • Shirley - 2012-04-24 10:32

get bloody real - the lot of you! read this: "This comes after Professor Jan Lotz offered a R1m reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Inge’s killer, the Cape Times reported. " obviously no one is going to get money before a conviction police are issueing rewards globally for ages - money talks!
