MEC condemns KZN road rage killing

2012-03-01 22:36

Durban - KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Willies Mchunu has condemned the killing of a man on the M34 near Montclair in an apparent act of road rage.

"Road rage is a serious problem that has to be rooted out in our society," he said on Thursday.

"This causes havoc on the road and it must stop."

Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said a truck driver became involved in an argument with the driver of an Opel Corsa, who had parked in front of him, at around 12:45 on the M34 in Durban on Wednesday.

"... The truck driver produced a firearm, shooting the driver of the light motor vehicle [in] the forehead," said Mdunge.

The truck driver fled. The driver of the Opel Corsa was declared dead on the scene.

Mdunge said it was not clear what caused the altercation.

"People must be able to control their anger and emotions. This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated on our roads," Mchunu said.

We need to help people with road rage, it is an illness we can't ignore, just the other day a guy cut me up, so we pulled over and I beat the crap out of him. He won't do it again. See, I helped him.

Oh dear Ian, I think there is a serious sense of humour failure here! You're ahead on thumbs down...... I'll give you my two for the thumbs up!

      Ian - 2012-03-02 13:52

@cathy. Thanks, it looks like everyone is c for serious today!

Removing taxis from the road will go a long way to ending road rage. They are the scum of the earth and do as they please ignoring all laws of the road.

      Peter - 2012-03-02 06:21

And extremely aggressive, even though they are the ones in the wrong.

      MandrewZA - 2012-03-02 07:30

Rather report them on and vent there, instead of confronting them and meeting the same possible end. Our roads have become a very dangerous place indeed!

@ mandrew... report them on drive like a chop and then what|? what happens then? nothing.

To the w@nker in the silveer BMW 330i who cut me up on Oxford Ave, your wing mirrors and wipers are in the bushes on the corner of Bristol Rd and 8th Ave.

      Merven - 2012-03-02 07:55

Maybe you were driving like miss Daisy?

      Yolanda - 2012-03-02 09:40

BMW drivers think they own the road. Period *and my bf is one of them* lmao!!!! *he better not read this comment*

"The truck driver fled". I wonder how big this truck was? My thinking is surely someone saw something! I know for a fact that on this part of the road especially if someone stopped, you would get a lot of people rubber necking to see what is happening. Secondly, are there no camera's on the M34. Truly sad and and seems like another unsolved murder!

Hey, Willies. No comment on your jackbooted stormtroopers that open fire on ordinary motorists that cannot swerve off the road in time for your Blue Light convoys. Speak to Uncle Sbu Ndebele about the cannonball run up to Zimbali in the afternoons.

I for one would need to go for anger management classes. I don't take too kindly to morons on the road. It's not worth the road rage, yet my temper seems to think otherwise. The first solution to a problem is admitting that you have one...

      Hugh - 2012-03-02 08:08

That may be so Ashen but the real problem is that more and more people are ignoring the most basic of road rules. Just this morning some idiot in a combi decided to accelerate from the left hand side of the road to infront of me then slam on his brakes to do a U turn. Now I would have no excuse if I had hit him in the rear. This was a deliberate act of endangerment placing reliance on my driving ability. Was I angry you bet. It is times such as these I wish I had a cannon mounted in front of my car aimed at both rear wheels.

I have road rage. I'm not proud of it but i get serioulsy annoyed at taxi drivers cutting in and truck drivers nearly pushing me off the road etc. Yes, i have a problem, but how is the MEC going to help me with my personal issue??? How is he going to control how I react to dumb drivers on the road???

  • brad.schafer3 - 2012-03-02 10:40

I cruse to work on an old harley. I am often shaking my head at idiot drivers in cars as well as my fellow bikers. You must suppress the road rage to survive when biking. Road rage is caused by stupid impatient people who do not plan their journey. Young women texting smoking and checking their makeup while driving, others plugged into their IPODS and none of them hear or see the emergency vehicle trying to get through. Sped bikers.....lane splittingis a privladge NOT a right.
