Madiba moves back to Joburg

2012-01-28 11:45

Johannesburg - Former president Nelson Mandela will be returning to his Johannesburg home, presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj said on Saturday.

Mandela would return to Johannesburg on Sunday as routine "maintenance has to be undertaken at his Qunu home in the Eastern Cape", he said.

"The former president continues to be in good health. We once more appeal for his privacy and that of his family to be respected," said Maharaj.

Mandela moved to Qunu a few days before his 93rd birthday in July last year.

      Andrew - 2012-01-29 06:38

What is not quite clear is the need to carry out routine maintenance on a home that was only inhabited since July 2011. After all it was said this is a modern new home with all the necessary fittings etc. Srange !!

  • Betweenuandme - 2012-01-28 12:59

Why did Mac Maharaj release a statement about this? The ANC believe they own Mandela. Mandela is their no. 1 asset and I'm sure they'd like him to stay in good health. The ANC is so lame.

  • Twolips - 2012-01-28 13:08

Mac, if you request privacy then why announce the move in the first place? Now the paparazzi in Joburg will be camping outside the house.

Coming back to be close to the Hospital? Maintenance sounds a bit lame.

      Chris - 2012-01-28 23:26

Agree on that one. Why move house just for routine maintenance?? It seems they can just never tell the truth.

  • Bomb - 2012-01-28 14:03

    Travel safe old man.

  • SarelJBotha - 2012-01-28 15:15

The EC is not reknowed for their hospitals, so I think this is a good move.

  • Sugar - 2012-01-28 18:50

He'll probably move back to Qunu

  • Grant - 2012-01-28 21:15

"The former president continues to be in good health" So says Mac Maharaj, an ANC official. We all know that ANC officials are incapable of telling the truth even if it would be to to their benifit (I would like to hear of any exeptions to this rule). So it's official then. Mandela is about to die, but why in Jhb...?

      Whitty - 2012-01-28 21:26

Grant, you might die before him you know? maybe tonight, farewell to your grave you are a stink. The old man will pass away when God says it is time for him but your death will be determined by your life style.

The chaos that is in the anc is simply spilling over and the former president is not spared as he will be moved up and down. The old man simply need a well deserved rest. There is nothing called routine maintanance to a mansion that wasw described less than ayear ago as brand new and the best.Plse do not use our former presidents image and moral authority to help solve the problems in the anc.Now that he had been snatched from his home village, wolves will pay him a profiled visit and try to use the visit to regain lost ground.Leave Nelson Mandela alone plse
