Madonsela: I didn't leak Nkandla report

2013-12-04 15:23

Pretoria - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has requested a meeting with the ANC following the party’s assertion that her office leaked the report into the Nkandla upgrade.

"You know I didn't leak that report," Madonsela said in response to a question from a reporter at the Mail & Guardian - the newspaper that published details from what it said was Madonsela’s provisional report into the Nkandla upgrade.

“All I know is that I did not leak the report. There is no benefit for me to leak it,” Madonsela said.

She also said that “from where I’m sitting I have no reasons to suspect that the leak was from my office”.

Meeting with ANC

Madonsela added she would be requesting a meeting with the ANC as it is the only party she did not engage with on the Nkandla matter.

The public protector was speaking at a media briefing near Pretoria on Wednesday following a news conference by the ANC at which party secretary general Gwede Mantashe claimed Madonsela’s office leaked details from the provisional report into the Nkandla upgrade to the Mail & Guardian.

“Mantashe said I said that I leaked the provisional Nkandla report. The truth is my statement that he relied on doesn't say that,” Madonsela told the briefing.

She said Mantashe’s claim that she had shared her report with affected parties was untrue and she had only shown the report to the five ministers in the security cluster.

Madonsela said there would be no point in taking the Mail & Guardian to court over the leak, as she would have to take the entire media to court and she doesn’t have the resources for that.

  • Eugene Enslin - 2013-12-04 15:25

    Thuli Madonsela for President!!!

      Koos Delusion - 2013-12-04 15:32

Chances are that the thugs in the security cluster leaked it for extra money. Their role model is a man with some 700 squashed corruption charges, has sex with the daughters of his friends and sees NOTHING wrong with a pool, tuck shop and an AtroTurf sports field built in Nkandla for "security reasons"

      Linds Ron-House - 2013-12-04 15:33

But in a video interview (available in this website for anyone to watch) the Mail & Guardian editor said he received the report from someone in the Public Protector's office. Who is lying between the M&G editor and the Public Protector? I beg the Public Protector to do her work diligently and stay clear of media spats. It's very childish for such a high office.

      Rambo 007 - 2013-12-04 15:35

We need a President that practice what he/she preached and to be an example and inspiration to the nation...

      Marina Dc - 2013-12-04 15:36

Yes! We know she did not leak it as well as the ones accusing her of it because they were the ones that did it. I think there is very little that these story spinners can still do that will fool the public. If they believe that they are they are in for a big surprise. We believe you Thuli and we stand behind you.

      Jackey - 2013-12-04 15:59

      Another Nkandla Cover-up

      Check Mate Malan - 2013-12-04 16:05

THULI's Credibility = 100% ( proven track record ) ANC's track record = 0 % ( proven track record ) Thuli you got them girl, now kick them where it hurts. Finish & klaar

      Mol Tronster - 2013-12-04 16:12

Come on guys. It's totally normal to wake up one day and see that there's ~5 new houses built on your property?! No need to ask questions seeing that it comes from hard working tax payers. *sarc*

      Hendrik van Schaik - 2013-12-04 16:17

Who cares who revealed the report. At least the truth is revealed for a change!

      Marina Dc - 2013-12-04 16:17

Michael it is not the first time you leave the same comment, do you know another sentence? You remind me of this Chinese gent that had to testify in court but the only English he knew was countly club,- what your name? countly club, where are you from? - countly club. You sound like that - Thuli puppet for the DA. Did you meet that guy at the countly club?

      Kagiso Booi - 2013-12-04 16:21

To protect the integrity of her office one would expect Thuli to at least investigate the source of the leakage, but why doesn’t she bother? Clearly the M&G have broken the law but again Thuli doesn’t have resources to take them to court, so criminals can get away with anything these days, is it?

      Marina Dc - 2013-12-04 22:05

Felicia if Thuli discover any dirty secret from any member from any party she must bring them to book. That is her duty and to date she has performed exceptionally well. If she does not do her duty in those areas, I am sure we will all jump at her. Till date she has proven that she is worthy of my trust and admiration. That woman is standing up for me and my children s rights like she is for every body else, including yours. Justice is the same for all and crime is crime, no matter who you are. This is a person, a woman we can be all proud of, she is not out to get the ANC, she is out to get those that are abusing their positions and misappropriating their rights which were conceded to them by the people. If Zuma goes the ANC will still stand, he is not the ANC. The party is created by the vote of the people, people like you and others. The ANC got Thuli to investigate corruption and to combat the same. They are doing what is right, why are you against the party that you so much love and admire. What have they done wrong to you?

  • Mali Mdletshe - 2013-12-04 15:27

      Riad Mahomed - 2013-12-04 15:52

What Gwede said is like deja vu since this is the making of more sacrificial lambs sent to the slaughter, just like it did for GuptaGate………this is more a sequel with a similar story line that Zuma never authorize this however lucky us, the lead actor remained the same so no complication there……

  • Amanda Matthews - 2013-12-04 15:27

I think Thuli Madonsela has just lit an atomic bomb under the ANC. Wow! That news conference was something else!

  • CraigJoseph - 2013-12-04 15:30

I don't see what the issue is here. The ANC have been doing everything in their power to delay the general release of the report. Now, accusations are flying around for a leaked portion?!? The fact of the matter remains, the portion leaked from the report is in the report itself. Well done Thuli, you have a back bone made of steel and I wish there were many more like you!

      Colin Craig Broadfoot - 2013-12-04 16:51

Mzilikazi and Felicia. Read your votes. Now STFU.

  • Juluka Watson Mabasa - 2013-12-04 15:31

The Ministers leaked it because they want to remove Zuma, but its too late becouse the ANC has already sank, its full of dirty water,Guptas,Nkandla,E tolls,Spy tapes,Marikana Massacre,so to gain trust from South Africans it will take Moses,s miracles,by the way wher is bra Mac Comidian Maharaji?

      Sydney Albertus Daniel - 2013-12-04 15:37

      Thuli Madonsela for president!

      DuToitCoetzee - 2013-12-04 17:13

Sir, you have just open my eyes to another possibility. Yes, true this is also a common practise. Specially when there is a click with a leader who is aiming for the top job.

  • Sandile Mngadi - 2013-12-04 15:32

Thuli Thuli Thuli, why are you explaining yourself. Give the public what they want. The Public is asking you to give them details of what you found in the Nkandla Investigation. They don't care who leaked what Gwede said what about you, give us your final report. Politicians will always fight with you, don`t give them a fight do the country justice by giving us corrupt Government Officials

  • joe.todani - 2013-12-04 15:33

  • Sipho Gift - 2013-12-04 15:34

Thuli u didn't do anything we know there wil b accusation 2 shift the focus on main culprit b4 mantashe could accuse u he must first ask mail&gurdian that who gave them the report bcoz we all know the r two camps in the anc one 4 zuma & other 4 mothlante obvious mothlantes camp is the 1 who leak the copy in order 2 secure their job coz their on the line 2b fire up by no1

  • Vhadau Funzani - 2013-12-04 15:37

I think EFF is right when it said that security cluster linked the report.....somebody is feeling the heat.....she must just release the report....i can't wait to hear ANC defending Zoom Zoom...joh....its south africa

      DuToitCoetzee - 2013-12-04 17:17

I also tend to bend more to the EFF's point on the leaking.

  • Phumi Shange - 2013-12-04 15:37

  • khaedu.ndou - 2013-12-04 15:39

I don't care about the leak. Upgrade is the matter

      DuToitCoetzee - 2013-12-04 17:21

I agree with you both. but I will not call her an "attention seeking woman". So far she did her job to the letter and apply good logic. Thus, untill proving wrong I believe she is not lying. Yes, the fact is that we, as public, need to see the report.

  • Mxolisi NerdCore Sono - 2013-12-04 15:42

Why can't we just have the Damn Report ?

  • Grace Andtruth - 2013-12-04 15:43

Who cares who leaked it? Its going to come out anyway!!! They just using 'the leak' to shift focus from the evils Zuma comitted.

      Grace Andtruth - 2013-12-04 15:49

Take your blinkers off Felicia!!! She is not the one seeking attention, she has been a very brave lady throughout this saga.

      George Slade - 2013-12-04 16:11

Well put BOB --But I fear that you are communicating with a Plank !

      Marina Dc - 2013-12-04 16:24

Felicia you are clearly not in time with all the comments, she has many black supporters, honest decent people that know what is right and what is wrong which seems to be an impossible task for a very tiny minority.

  • Mzi Ngubane - 2013-12-04 15:44

I wonder why people are blaming everybody else but not the media especially the Mail and Guardian for prematurely and unethical publishing the Report.

      Elsie Palmer - 2013-12-04 16:00

Zuma should have told the truth. Zuma like to stand behind his ministers then he can use e-toll-e to make them happy.

  • Kenny Kwenamore - 2013-12-04 15:44

This lady Thuli is the embodiment of human dignity Hope one day she becomes president

      Amanda Matthews - 2013-12-04 16:02

Yes and the embodiment of absolute integrity too.

  • Lynn Hattingh - 2013-12-04 15:46

Thuli you and I have never met and the chances are that we won't, but you lady have won my respect. You can be proud of the way you stood your ground and saw this through to the end.I only hope for your sake that you don't get a backlash. Just remember the citizens are behind youb all the way.

  • Lums Zindela - 2013-12-04 15:47

"You know I didn't leak that report," Madonsela said ... and I believe her, unlike zuma who told the parliament that every house in his nkanda was built from his own pocket but now it transpired that he's a deceiver like we've always known him to be. Just leave Thuli alone, she's there to safeguard our tax money from the zanc vultures

  • Musa Maziya - 2013-12-04 15:47

It seems some of the comments here, are intended just to confirm that the colours of the ANC are synonymous with stupidity. Damn the freedom!

  • Humungus McCabre - 2013-12-04 15:48

Zuma has his enemies in the ANC, one of the ministers in the security cluster leaked the report.

  • Susan Fraser - 2013-12-04 15:49

  • Nick Bozman - 2013-12-04 15:50

According to the ANC you did ? Dear Jesse(i don't have a driving licence and jackson where is the blue label) said on TV-you are the leak.Proof according to them, you are not cross enough-so that proves it ?

  • Pogiso Mekgwe - 2013-12-04 15:52

wht whr de terms n conditions 4 seeing de report? Dose who saw it did dey signed 4 confidentiality? Did dey read it frm monitor or whr dey givn hardcopies 2 browse? If yes den dey need 2 b cross examined by an independent body.

  • Ndivhudza Mahwasane - 2013-12-04 15:54

I was an ANC member and needless to say I have been voting for this party since 1994. This is the party that is now charging me to travel on the roads that I've already paid for; This is the party that refuses to tell me where my fuel money is; This is the party that sees nothing wrong with Nkandla; This is the party that is attacking my Public Protector for just doing her job. I started asking myself if the current crooks running the ANC are worth my vote and you will all know the answer when ANC will become an official opposition party next year and believe you me we are working tirelessly to educate our people in the villages to campaign soo hard against these crooks. I feel sorry for anybody campaining for the ANC

      Erna Westdyk - 2013-12-04 16:06

      Thank you.

      Marina Dc - 2013-12-04 16:49

You are the type of person the ANC was made of, somewhere along the line some of them lost decency and became so morally sick, believing themselves to be above all law and people and many in the opposition follow that trend. I really feel sorry for the honest and decent ANC members that have to go burdened under such shame and disgrace, to such an extend that you have to oppose your party by stepping over to the opposition. What matters is that you keep true to yourselves, never give that up. This country needs more people like you and many others that feel like you. The ANC surely have no idea of what valuable treasures they are losing. All the best of luck and make sure where you go, they are worth your trust and effort.

      DuToitCoetzee - 2013-12-04 17:32

For a long time I am saying the old ANC is dead. On paper all were writen in good, but the action do not reflect it. The saying is that one knowns another by their deeds/action and not you were/hear. As simple as that. Good luck with your efforts. It will count to a better for all of us.

  • Liza Hall - 2013-12-04 15:54

    ANC leaked it. Obvious!

  • Ziphozethu Mazwana - 2013-12-04 15:55

so what if it was leaked, who cares? why is the ANC buying time, and act like they really want the report to be published when they don't? who are they trying to fool?

      George Slade - 2013-12-04 16:14

Because Just Before the Elections will harm them more & lose them Votes. Release it now & By election time its all forgotten/water under the bridge --Simple.

      Tersia Louw - 2013-12-04 17:05

They're trying to fool us, the electorate, Zipho. They're trying to deflect our attention from the contents of the report to the "leaking" of the report. We're not that easily fooled...

  • Jacqueline Benjamin - 2013-12-04 15:55

The ANC leaked the report to discredit this fine lady and her excellent work

  • Zeb Moche - 2013-12-04 15:56

I never thought the ANC that we voted in 1994 can turn out to be like this, the ANC that struggled for freedom, you will remember men who lost their lives for our freedom, men who abondened their families for freedom, young lions like Solomon Mahlangu who were executed for us to be freed. Sis I hate you"number one and his cronies" rapist, thugs, thieves, you stole from the masses. Let's give these thugs what they deserve, "No Vote for them".

      Mumsy Tholo - 2013-12-04 17:20

I think we should vote with our minds not our hearts. we should vote for the strongest opposition party. we must give the ANC a message that they work for us. kick them out of government period. Smaller parties waisted vote.

  • Graham Du Toit - 2013-12-04 15:57

What is amazing is that these corrupt pricks are concerned about who leaked the report! Its not the leaking BUT THE CONTENT THAT MATTERS. The president is a corrupt fat prick!

  • Nsovo Nick Rikhotso - 2013-12-04 15:59

Together we can ( ANC Slogan ) Lets faitgh the corruption Madam. No one above the law

  • George Williams - 2013-12-04 15:59

Mantasha don't think everyone in the cANCer is on JZ's payroll. You obviously are but there are some who also want him out and fast. The timing of the release of the full report is crucial. Get it out when the ANC cannot brush everything under the carpet and select some minor scapegoat to take the wrap. Just like Guptagate.

  • Mashudu - 2013-12-04 16:03

Thuli is doing her Job and she's doing it very well!

  • Sabelo Sabz Hlubelikhulu Mcondobi - 2013-12-04 16:04

The only person with details of the Nkandla report is Thuli Madonsela...if she is saying SG is wrong then who leaked the report or who else could do that.

      Zola Ntongo - 2013-12-04 16:47

It is clear now security cluster knows very well one of those 5minister from cluster fed M&G with informatoin not Thuli

      Marina Dc - 2013-12-04 17:59

She showed it to 5 ministers to verify that no security leaks occur that could endanger the president and his family s life. If the Government is so worried about who leaked the report why do they not corner M and G? I will tell you, because they will tell them - you did.

  • Eddie Botha - 2013-12-04 16:09

Ditto Rambo 007. Zuma should watch his back... those security cluster ministers may have Malema connections.

      OldNick - 2013-12-04 17:20

Zuma is a master back stabber. He has an iron grip on his cronies and it seems they are willing to defend him at all costs even if it means foresaking their own credibility. It is a sick state of affairs, because it seems that there is no one in the ANC to stand up to Zuma and take him down. Now it is left up to the voters, and the only way left to topple Zuma is to topple the ANC. While we live in hope that the majority of voters will come to their senses and vote anything but ANC, this is a big ask but the EFF and Malema might be helpful in chopping the ANC down to size and toppling Zuma (one thing the ANC can't afford is to lose power because of one man). Otherwise, Zuma may be around for a while and things will not go well with this country because of it.

  • Toby Clive Goss - 2013-12-04 16:10

  • Thabo Fazzio Mokapela - 2013-12-04 16:18

I think it was leaked by the very people that didn't want it published in order to discredit Thuli. They were hoping that everyone would see her as irresponsible and must be fired.

  • Elvis Chaweza - 2013-12-04 16:19

The issue should not be whether it was leaked or not. The issue should be the contents of the report. One way or the other this report has to go into the public domaine and people must worry about whether the contents are true or not. If they are true, what action to take. It does not matter who tells the parents of a girl about her pregnancy without the girl's permission. What matters is whether the girl is indeed pregnant.

  • Malefetsane Macdee Ntja - 2013-12-04 17:07

This is not about leaking or not, the public deserved to know, this report is looong over due, the ANC itself refused for Thuli to release them, now it’s a story again when its leaked, and she must now release the report. Must she now do it under duress? She will do it at her own time!

  • Ndivhudza Mahwasane - 2013-12-04 17:14

I almost forgave the ANC for shoving the e-toll up my a$$ but when I saw Gwede Manthase attacked my Public Protector and thinking we are fools; I knew it is not enough just to vote for EFF but to actively campaign against the ANC. I have already taken away 24 votes from them and that's just the start. I urge everybody who loves this country to take time and bring at least one person who will be voting out these corrupt government before we all regret that Polokwane decision. I am not a fan of Julius Malema but he is the only person who can wrestle in the mud with Zuma. I wait to see the ANC as an opposition party after the General Election.....I am requesting all who love this country as much as I do to make a pledge that you will make it a point to at least bring to the attention of the person sitting next all the corrupt and costly decision taken by this ANC-led government. I'm sorry that I have campaigned for this corrupt government and it is now my time to do the right things and work tirelessly to cut this government to size. Just the thought of seeing the ballot paper next year gives me soo much joy; can't wait to take to vote against THE E-TOLL, NKANDLA etc. And for those of my brothers and sisters who still vote to spite the other races, I beg you to see the facts and do the right things. I have already taken time to explain and educate my people about the power of their vote and the ANC will give testimony next year

      Mumsy Tholo - 2013-12-04 17:58

I think voting for smaller parties it's a waisted vote. My opinion

  • gobozakamashaba - 2013-12-04 17:21

Thuli will regret ever accepting to investigate the Nkandla saga.....playing a hero is going to come back and bite you big time. Now you are doing all you can to protect yourself rather than dealing with the report itself or investigating the M&G about how they accessed the report. The chair is becoming hot now, be careful not to burn your a$$.
