Malema linked to fraudulent tender

2012-09-23 14:38

Johannesburg - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has found that former ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema made his millions from a fraudulent tender, according to a Sunday report.

Although Madonsela could not find evidence that Malema interfered in the tendering process, she found that his Ratanang Family Trust benefited "improperly", City Press reported.

Madonsela proposed that legal action be taken to recover the money Malema received.

This was according to a copy of Madonsela's provisional report into the R52m tender won by On-Point Engineers from the Limpopo roads and transport department.

Malema's family trust was one of the two shareholders in On-Point.

According to City Press, Madonsela's investigation also found that On-Point acted corruptly by signing back-to-back agreements with subcontractors.

"Due to the fact that the awarding of the contract to On-Point was based on deliberate misrepresentations and non-compliance with procurement prescripts, its shareholders, including the Ratanang Family Trust... benefited improperly by means of the payment of 'dividends' and other payments made to it by On-Point," the newspaper quoted from Madonsela's report.

The public protector recommended that the tender be immediately cancelled and that the National Prosecuting Authority and Asset Forfeiture Unit urgently consider criminal action.

Madonsela also proposed that the Master of the High Court investigate the flow of money into Malema's trust, according to City Press.

NO< I don't believe Juju would stoop so low as to do something dishonest. the man is integrity itself, these reports could damage his public profile in politics. Nah, it's Africa. You have to get a criminal record before qualifying for the presidency :) - 2012-09-23 14:52

INTEGRITY, HONESTY, SAVVY, DISCIPLINE, HUMANITY - unfortunately these words are understood and applied only by a minority SA citizens... The political corruption and crime statistics of the past 18 years points heavily to a certain group of people..... Yet they lack the ability to grasp the word "introspection" hence they will never go into self-conviction.... hence why they always blame everything and everyone but themselves.

He's like the chicken thief who was found not-guilty and then asked the judge: "Does this mean I can keep the chicken?"

      sisa.mtwana - 2012-09-23 20:30

This is old news please tell us something new and show us Madonsela current report. We already know these are politically motivated charges against Juju. Is this article to sway public opinion against Juju or keep the readers interested, its not working.

      MallyGold - 2012-09-24 09:05

Sisa, you and Juju can share the chicken!

      travis.vermaak - 2012-09-24 09:58

This is good news, but the SA justice system will probably fail us somewhere along the line. Evidence will be 'lost', or improperly presented and dismissed. If justice does 'prevail' , Juju will then probably develop a life threatening illness and will be playing golf in 2 years with Shaik and Selebi....That's the way things seem to go in SA.....Viva ANC<--Yeah right.

  • osmaseko - 2012-09-23 14:49

This is a bad month for Juju......he must slaughter a goat....!

      azande.futhi - 2012-09-23 14:56

      rodney.bevan.58 - 2012-09-23 14:59

I suppose he could, have a last party with his buddies before going off to jail. If I was the owner of the goat, I would insist on cash up front though.

      JanGrimbeek - 2012-09-23 15:02

He better do the slauhtering fast, very fast, before the goat gets attached, or he himself gets slaughtered.

      julian.booyens - 2012-09-23 15:08

      francois.leroux.779 - 2012-09-23 17:21

Nope Tim, you've got it wrong - everybody over 30 in the ANC has his/her hands in the till, so there is no pointing fingers at Malema. I also suspect he his going to call in a few favours, and pimp on some of his erstwhile brothers in crime. More popcorn please....

OR since the investigations started, HE's been busy setting the scene to make it LOOK like it's politically motivated. Demanding a "political solution" (as he did for Zuma) is just about the only way he can save his own backside.

      dan.ledwaba.5 - 2012-09-24 00:38

How can not paying your taxes be "politically motivated"? How can corrupt business dealings be "politically motivated"? mMalema made these crooked decisions, all by himself. I'm sure he knew exactly what he was doing but the greed for money was more powerful than decency or compassion for the poor.

For a guy that has never done a hard days work in his life, he sure managed to amass the millions. I wish he could teach me a thing or two. I worked hard every day of my life, stinting to save for my old age so I could enjoy my twilight years. What a joke, in the last 4 years I am hardly able to enjoy the bread I put on the table, then I remind myself of the people who dont even have bread. This guy claims to be champion of the poor, yet what has he done for the poor, diddly squat, our prezzie cant sleep at night he worries about the poor, and these are just two that actually could uplift a lot of them. These corrupt buggers, actually suck the blood out of the poor and they reckon we must work harder and pay more tax so the poor can get uplifted. Arrogant, useless nincompoops. Show me how just 1 municipal official can amass 99 properties. I hope they all get leprocy and their hands fall off.
