Malema's gardener finally paid

2012-04-19 16:44

Johannesburg - Suspended ANC Youth leader Julius Malema's gardener said he was finally paid money owed to him by his employer, according to a report on Thursday.

Joseph Mabuza told Eyewitness News that Malema had paid him and he considered the matter closed.

Earlier on Thursday Mabuza, who worked for Malema on Sundays, was quoted as saying he had not been paid for February and March and was owed R1 200.

"I just wish Julius pays me. I borrowed money from people for my transport. I also took a lot of things on credit," he told The Star newspaper.

The gardener, who lives in Tembisa and works during the week for another employer, claims he spent R26 on transport every Sunday to work at Malema's house.

Malema denied the claim of not paying wages.

"He has failed to report for work for a long time and now he accuses me of owing him money. If I do, he must come and collect his money. I will wait for him," Malema told the daily newspaper.

Mabuza said he had worked for Malema for more than four years.

      Ray - 2012-04-19 18:26

  • Balanganani - 2012-04-19 16:51

And then?\r\n\r\nSoob they wil be reporting that Malema's dogs dont have food. boring news

      Liz - 2012-04-19 17:35

Actually for me - it is not news at all - I do not know why News 24 is so taken up with this man. It is a half baked story and we do not even know the real facts.

  • Shirley - 2012-04-19 16:52

Amazing what a bit of bad publicity does!

  • mholthuysen - 2012-04-19 16:54

Yes the one who preaches to be fair to workers, nationalization, workers rights... and than this... what about the minimum wage Malema; oh of course it's the anc - we never do what we preach... tosser!

  • Oom - 2012-04-19 16:56

What I can't understand is why something like this even make the news. News 24 becomming really desperate??

      Morientes - 2012-04-19 17:48

No, I say well done news 24! Malema is the one telling the poor black people thinking he is their king, they and their forefathers have all been exploited their whole lives by white people, that did not pay them. Now they can see first hand their king is no different!

  • Brad.Kopping - 2012-04-19 16:58

    HOW is this newsworthy??

  • Sharmay - 2012-04-19 16:59

er, doesn't working on a Sunday usually mean double pay or ever 1.5 times normal rate? How come so little money for the gardener then... and Malema says us whites exploit the cheap labour... pfft.

      Nigel - 2012-04-19 18:04

yup - Hypocrite caught out at his own game, can you IMAGINE if this was HZ that didn't pay her garden boy, IMAGINE what this lying hypocrite would have vomited along with his sheep.

      kaMazibuko - 2012-04-20 10:30

R1200 for working 4 days in a month equates to R300 per day. Do you pay your gardener R300 per day ?

  • Martin - 2012-04-19 17:13

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA malema u idiot, life isnt free you spanner

  • Sewela Marcia Rapudubudu - 2012-04-19 17:20

      scnzama - 2012-04-19 17:47

@Sewela you are funny should consider comedy as a full time would make a killing.thank you for making me laugh

      Kevin - 2012-04-20 06:40

Clearly, there aren't many commenters here who understand that Mr Malema preaches that he is fighting for the rights of the 'previously disadvantaged' but actually doesn't even bother to observe the rights of his own gardener. When are these people going to see that what Mr M says in public is not what he truly believes or does? It's not the amount of money that is newsworthy here, but the principle of the matter. Please go and google 'principles' Sewela......

      Deon - 2012-04-20 08:41

Maybe Malema is like the old North Korea leader, he does not need to "go", but he is gone.

  • chants.smith - 2012-04-19 17:21

And this is news how?? what a waste of a headline..

      TSR01 - 2012-04-19 17:54

To prove that Malema is a hypocrite and does NOT "fight for the rights of the poor and underpowered" - not paying someone for a hard day's work? Very sporting of him, don't you think?

      chants.smith - 2012-04-19 18:06

Well its definatly not news worthy.. pppfft , last thing i want to know about is how he spends his money on luxuries that most people cant afford. HE CAN CUT HIS OWN GRASS !

  • esethu3 - 2012-04-19 17:22

As a Student of MEDIA and WRITING I feel so ashamed to Read this, How is this Newsworthy? I just hope that it did not make it to the Newspapers. This is not the way to go!!!

      TSR01 - 2012-04-19 17:58

As a student, you should question all aspects of why this might be reported. Clearly, Malema's role as "the champion of the poor" is proven to be a sham by his actions in refusing to pay 2 months' wages to his gardener. With this knowledge, the uninformed poor will better be able to judge their "precious JuJu" for the waste of resources he is. Remember, even something which seems insignificant may be truly significant if it gives credence to either prove or disprove previously conceived notions about an individual or commercial entity. :)

      esethu3 - 2012-04-19 21:47

Do you really believe there will be someone who can work for Two months without being payed and then resort to the Media. Surely there is a good real story of what the situation is about, the Medai will just report anything about Malema. Next they will report he farted.

  • paul.coetzee1 - 2012-04-19 17:24

I am a little confused over this article. Exactly which person in the dispute is the garden boy?

      mvangraan - 2012-04-19 17:59

      BRILLIANT PAUL!!!! :-) LMAO!!!!

  • Lwazi Sibiya - 2012-04-19 17:26

Whatz happening to news24, are they running short of stories?

      TSR01 - 2012-04-19 18:01

Read the article before this one, where the gardener claims he had not been paid for 2 months. Now read all the articles in the past, where Malema has claimed to be "the champion of the poor", who "stands up for the poor people", and should be a role model to those who still imagine him to be acting in their best interests. Clearly, there is merit in exposing him to all South Africans, of all income classes, as the fraud and selfish fatboy that he is. He wouldn't pay an un-empowered man for his honest, hard work. Says volumes to the people of South Africa.

  • Vickela Mumby - 2012-04-19 17:31

    Juju,dont be stingy!

  • jlouw1 - 2012-04-19 17:34

      Nigel - 2012-04-19 18:07

Indlovu, If HZ didn't pay her garden boy, would you say the garden boy is a lier, dumb hypocrite!!

      Piet - 2012-04-19 18:48

yeah i agree he knows his stuff when it comes to corruption!

  • Nigel - 2012-04-19 18:01

ok so he says the gardner was paid, then he said that he didn't show up for work & that why he was not paid & now he says he has since paid him....that just says it all....the lier just lies & lies & lies, everyday he makes up a new story to suit his needs, the joke of this all is that despite being caught out lying again, his claim to represent the poor has just been proven to be the smoke screen to fool the poor & unemployed into believing in his mad economic ideas, that he cuts & pastes from TV, for his own political agenda.

  • Chaapo - 2012-04-20 05:32

As a so-called leading socialist, perhaps Malema should do a refresher course on Mao Zedong's Six Points for Attention for the followers (cadres) in which one was for them to be honest when buying and selling. You buy a service, then pay for it honestly. These "revolutionaries' talk a lot about how they are the masses' representatives but have no idea how to work with people because their knowledge of being one with the people is very superficial.
