Johannesburg - A 63-year-old man accused of raping a teenager was arrested in Volksrust, Mpumalanga police said on Thursday.

The man was taken into custody on Wednesday after a 17-year-old schoolgirl opened a case against him, police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala said.

She alleged the man started raping her when she was 13, and that he offered her money and gifts.

"When the girl started to refuse having a sexual relationship with the man, he demanded his money back."

The girl's friends reported the matter to the police. He would appear in the Volksrust Magistrate's Court on Friday.
