Durban - A 73-year-old man was stabbed to death by a man understood to be a relative at a Westville home on Saturday night.

A police source with knowledge of the case, who spoke to News24 on condition of anonymity, said that officers were called to the home in Clackmannan Road shortly after 21:00.

Officers purportedly found that the elderly man had been stabbed to death by a relative, who was arrested when police arrived at the house.

His bloodied body was discovered in the kitchen, having sustained several stab wounds inflicted with a knife that was discovered at the scene.

"A 34-year-old suspect was at the house when police arrived. The body of the deceased was found in a pool of blood in the kitchen,” he said.

"It is reported that the two men had had a heated argument before the elderly man was killed."

The suspect is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Monday.

KZN police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane was not available for comment on Saturday night.
