Pretoria - Dawid Connoway, the man accused of shooting his former fiancée dead at her work in Pretoria, will make a formal bail application in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court next week.

After appearing in court on Monday, Connoway, 39, would return on May 26 in the hope of being released on bail. He is accused of arriving at Nicolene Shreuder's offices in Moreleta Park on the morning of Wednesday, April 29 and shooting her in the forehead. The 35-year-old died on the scene. Connoway was arrested that night.

He was charged with murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and pointing a firearm.

At a previous appearance, the court was told he pointed a gun at a security guard when he sped off on a motorbike to go into hiding with his mother and stepfather in Bronkhorstspruit. They were arrested on charges of defeating the ends of justice and released on bail.

Connoway has told the court he previously paid an admission of guilt fine for assault, and had a restraining order brought against him, in unrelated cases.

The court wanted to know whether his firearm was licensed, as he had claimed. It was stolen, then recovered and handed back to him, according to a submission he made previously.

According to the Pretoria East Rekord, Schreuder had kicked him out of their home two weeks before the shooting.
