2013-02-02 21:01

Johannesburg - A man accused of selling drugs to school children was arrested in Umbilo, Durban, the Hawks said on Saturday.

Captain Paul Ramaloko said the 37-year-old man was arrested on Friday. On his arrest drugs including dagga, magic mushrooms and Cat - which he apparently sold to children attending a high school near his residence - were confiscated.

The drugs had an estimated street value of R40 000. A further R38 000 in cash was confiscated from the house. He would appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday facing charges of drug dealing.

Where's the usual hippy crowd now, blabbing on about how harmless dagga is etc...? They usually spout their crap below every article about dagga arrests...I suppose they are cool with dagga being sold to their kids?

That is a rather imbecilic comment John. This article is precisely the reason why we believe that the prohibition of marijuana must be done away with in its entirety! Prohibition gives these idiots full control over the distribution and supply of these substances and permits them full access to the most vulnerable in society i.e. children. If we legalised and regulated the trade then the government would assume total CONTROL of these substances and be the SOLE providers. On top of this all the drug sales would be taxed which would mean that that money can be used to BENEFIT society instead of fattening the bank accounts of career criminals. What is so difficult to understand about that? I really can't put it any simpler I'm afraid.

p.s. do yourself a favour and watch a new documentary film called 'The House I Live In'. It will really open your eyes as to just how much these archaic drug laws are ruining people's lives and causing far reaching damage to society as a whole. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/scott-mendelson/review-the-house-i-live-i_b_2479951.html

My views don't mean that I condone using them. People are going to do what they want regardless of whether drugs are legal or not. What we're talking about is making drugs legal and then regulating them. Prohibition simply doesn't work. We've already seen that. The drug war does more harm than good. We're not winning. We can't get rid of all of the drugs. What we need to do is take the drugs out of the control of the drug lords, gangsters and terrorists, and get them off the streets. Many of our law enforcement officers are even admitting that the drug war in its current form is a lost cause.
