Man admits killing gay lover, sister

Durban - The man accused of killing an elderly brother and sister has pleaded guilty to the crimes in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court, the Mercury reported on Wednesday.

According to the paper Mario Tsware, 29, confessed to killing Dennis and Crystal Roberts and to two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The Mercury reported that Tsware first met Dennis, 75, in June through a gay internet site and they began a relationship.

When Tsware lost his job in August Dennis invited him to live with his sister at their Begonia Road home. However because Crystal disliked him, Dennis rented him a flat in South Beach, paying for the rent.

Relationship soured

Roberts eventually moved in with Tsware, but their relationship soured when Dennis constantly wanted sex and threatened to withhold groceries and rent if he did not get what he wanted.

Roberts moved out, stopped paying rent and cancelled the lease, leaving Tsware feeling "abandoned and abused". In an attempt to lure Roberts back and rob him of his bank cards, Tsware created a fictitious name, Ernest, logged on to the gay dating website and invited him to meet in the "dark room" at Adult World.

The meeting didn't happen. Roberts later called Tsware believing him to be Ernest, and arranged to meet him at the Formula 1 Hotel in Durban on Monday, November 28. When Roberts arrived, Tsware and his accomplice strangled him with an electrical cord and took his car, money and bank card.

They then went to Crystal's house to find Roberts's cellphone and laptop, as Tsware believed it would lead the police to him.

When he and his accomplice arrived they found Crystal Roberts, 71, and killed her.

A relative found her body. She had been strangled and stabbed. The house had been ransacked.

Tsware was caught in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday, November 30.

Police were still looking for Tsware's accomplice.

Tsware would be sentenced on Thursday.

Surely we can hold the government accountable for not keeping the citizens of this country safe

      Go - 2011-12-07 13:11

What the heck is going on with humanity ????

      Adrian - 2011-12-07 13:37

I agree to a certain point, with random avoidable crime such as hijackings etc, yes we should hold the government accountable. But in this case where the whole thing was predetermined it would be difficult for anyone to regulate it. The criminal had made his mind up long before the crime and it would have been near impossible to stop him, you can't really arrest someone for something they may or may not do. It's like the minority report...

The victim, Roberts< deserved what he got. Do not give someone something and then "blackmail" them. It is a pity that sex has become the focal point of life today, be you gay or not. Does not matter about race, crede or colour - whats fair is fair.

if you dont have any intelligent offerings, and just seek to attack someone personally, than rather dont say anything at all.

JERRY JERRY JERRY!!!To have your personal life splattered all over on the news like this...aikhona. What were you even thinking??

  • Bob - 2011-12-07 13:58

Something fishy here..! Where does a 29 year old hook up with a 75 year old and then states that he could not keep up with the 75 year olds sexual performance demands…Give me a break! I think there were ulterior motives right in the beginning which came to fruition ultimately resulting in the murders and robberies!

      Manny - 2011-12-07 14:19

You may have a point, Bob. It is difficult meeting people of your own age group, the only difference here is that sex was the deciding factor for the 1 party and financial gain the factor for the other.

What a sick country we live in! All in the name of sex???

      jody.beggs - 2011-12-07 14:52

What is a relationship without sex ?

  • Ayanda - 2011-12-07 16:24

Pity the sister got killed but the older man got what he deserved. White people don't date black whilst they are in their prime once they are old and do not appeal to their own, they switch to blacks. Whenever i see wrinkled whites with black lovers i want to puke. The lovers too coz they want money, they make me sick putting up with wrinkly creatures agh!! If i can't have you in your youth then u can't have me when u are old.

      Adrian - 2011-12-07 17:11

What a ridiculous comment! It's called free will. People have the right to be with whoever they want to be with for whatever reason they choose.
