Durban - A taxi owner appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court on Monday in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Inkatha Freedom Party councillor Themba Xulu.

The case against the 34-year-old man was postponed to Friday.

State advocate Thabani Buthelezi asked that the matter be transferred to the Durban Regional Court for a formal bail application.

The man was believed to be one five men who posed as policemen when Xulu was abducted.

He was arrested at the weekend, but could not be named as he had yet to undergo an identity parade, said Colonel Jay Naicker.

Xulu was abducted from his home in KwaMashu's A-Section on 5 October, allegedly by five men posing as policemen.

He was found two days later in an area known as eTafulene, near Durban.

At the time, Naicker said people collecting mushrooms discovered the body and alerted the police.

Xulu sustained multiple gunshot wounds and his body appeared to show early signs of decomposition, he said.

Can the state discipline this taxi industry as they are now bringing their violent behaviour to politics. This man should be disciplined in a way of sending a massage to the whole taxi industry.
