Cape Town - A man appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on charges of abducting a 16-year-old girl from the Eastern Cape and using her as a sex slave, the Cape Argus reported on Tuesday.

The 47-year-old appeared on Monday and was told he would remain in custody until 8 October.

The State alleges the girl, from Nqamakhwe village, was forced into marriage. Prosecutor Cecil Engel told the court the girl had refused to marry and live with the man in Du Noon, Cape Town.

He alleged the man held the girl against her will and raped her "since their marriage night".

It was only when she fell ill and persuaded the man to take her to a clinic that she alerted a nurse to her plight.

According to the report, the man had been charged with a Schedule Six offence, which meant that, according to the Criminal Procedure Act, he would have to convince the court that exceptional and compelling circumstances existed to justify his release on bail.

I see he's still practicing the old "ukuthwala" thing where you could just grab a girl and take her home and make her your wife *sigh*
