Johannesburg - An armed man was arrested on William Nicol Drive on Wednesday after allegedly robbing a shop in Fourways, Johannesburg police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said a group of three to four men broke into an electronics shop on Wednesday morning.

"The group of men tried fleeing the shop in a getaway vehicle but were chased by security and police down William Nicol Drive before a shoot-out ensued."

She said the armed men lost control of their vehicle before crashing into a minibus.

"The men abandoned their vehicle and police managed to arrest one man, in his 30s. The rest of the group fled on foot."

Police confiscated three unlicensed firearms, an R-4 rifle, a 9mm pistol and a revolver in the getaway vehicle.

Mogale said one person from the minibus sustained minor injuries.
