Johannesburg - A 34-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 7-year-old girl in Zola, Soweto, Gauteng police said on Thursday.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the girl was playing with friends on Wednesday, when the man called her to his shack. When she was inside he locked the door and allegedly raped her.

The girl told her mother who reported the matter to the police. The girl was taken to a doctor who confirmed the rape.

The man was arrested in the early hours of Thursday at his shack.

Please, I plead to the South African Justice system - this man cannot be released on bail. Let him serve a long time for raping an innocent 7-year-old.

Please release him on Bail and let him back into the community - Kangaroo court anyone?

Not a day goes by without a story of someone ending someone's life through rape. Surely we need tougher laws in sa regarding this behaviour. Why is the goverment not recognising this epidemic and enforcing harsher laws against these offenders. They should not be granted bail at all and could we please have a torture chamber built specifically for them otherwise our future generations will continue to suffer.

Although I do not understand the 'middle east laws' (Shiria law - I think stand to be corrected.)that is the one thing they have down to a tee, you rape cut it off, steal - finger / hand off and kill public hanging.

@newsmonger. I dont agree with shiria law because it often punishes victims, but I am all for having these people out of our society. I just wish that the goverment would do the same cos the message that they are sending to these creatures is that its ok to do this and you will get a few years in jail. It seems that the goverment is not in tune with whats happening. Didnt jacob say that he would like to introduce the death penalty again, but nothing has been done.

      Sifiso - 2012-01-05 19:12

@ Consolata Lodya On radio, a legal expert explained why the death penalty will never be re-introduced in S.A. He said that before the constitution was finalised it was decided that the death penalty is not in line with the humanity-oriented constitution. Therefore the only way the death penalty can be re-introduced, is if the entire constitution is redrafted.

What surprises me is that he went back to his shack and was caught there in the early hours of the morning! Why did he stick around? Did he think what he did was ok and nothing would happen to him? I also vote for Kangaroo....

This is new South Africa - what is new?. It looks like this is normal around here. Poeple please live with this.

My sympathies to the girl and her family. To avoid this from happening in future, children need to be taught that they must avoid being alone with an adult who is not family, even if that particular adult is not a stranger.

      Athiestis, how capital?

Hand him over to the community - African Justice ...! kill the mother Fker!

  • Perfume5 - 2012-02-08 09:11

Let the community hold the court case, he will not live to rape another little girl! Too many times we are reading how lenient the courts are with these child rapists, by giving them bail. As CameronJohnPrice said "kangaroo court" will work wonders in such situations.

Our justice and police system are to blame for this. Its also the reason why people take justice into their own hands by killing sick people like this themselves. They know nothing will happen to these animals. We have to bring the death penalty back or start cutting things off.
