I will say this again. The rapes of very old people are linked to muti practices. Both the rapists and the sangomas who prescribe this practice should be jailed for life! Disgusting.

      tshireletso.molobi.1 - 2013-01-04 22:50

      This is sad

      fred.warren.986 - 2013-01-05 03:18

Muti? Granny raping seems to be the latest craze amongst our previously disadvantaged youth. Have they not got anything better to do with their time than terrorizing old ladies. This is just sick! The perpetrators should be castrated and hung up until they rot!

      harold.stewart.184 - 2013-01-05 16:50

bring back the old lynching parties. There is no hope for these people. They are sick in their hearts. God forgive our country for not caring for those that are vulnerable. Old people, children and women...

  • abdulbaith.sayegh - 2013-01-04 21:13

Dear Lord what is happening to society? When are we going to put pressure on government to stop these horrific crimes against our women and children? Rapist must be hanged!

      Tuyez - 2013-01-05 07:36

Government can only stop crime by supplying each every person with body guard, which is impossible and expensive. Ask yourself why are politicians always with their armed guards? They are simple protecting themselves from any sort of crime that can be projected to them and their families. And they dont care what happen with other individuals. Community watch or policing is the solution. Neighbors in arms against crime. If you or you neighbor is attacked help.

      koos.meyer.52 - 2013-01-05 10:21

Quick question: Which group of SA's population does the following: 1) Drives Taxi's 2) Rapes Babies 3) Rapes old people 4) Rapes anything else that is female 5) Hijacks 6) Murders Clearlyg this group which is a minority have a major problem and are a danger to the rest of us in South Africa.

      koos.meyer.52 - 2013-01-05 15:43

By population group that includes gender...

We demand mandatory DNA testing of all arrested and a national DNA database. Rapists and child molesters are seldom caught on their 1st offence. We demand no bail for all sex-related crimes. We demand mandatory sentences for sex crimes of 40yrs --> with NO possibility of parole (regardless of who is the President).

      Tyrone Grobbelaar - 2013-01-04 23:16

Once again i agree. I like your posts.

      Tuyez - 2013-01-05 07:44

How about microchips under your skin dectecting individuals movements. Police can go to an affected area and their machine would tell who has been there in past two or three days or the info can be kept for months in a database. Just a fictional thought

  • lee.brand.73 - 2013-01-04 21:33

If you understand the cause of this perversion/sickness then you may be able to combat it. We are unique in this - why? Anyone know?

      dominmy - 2013-01-04 21:50

Who's we? But anyway I blame it on the upbringing in most cases. Poor ubunto as Zoomer would hav 't. No family values, no respect and the list goes on . . . .. . . .

      We = South Africa

      lacrimose.wolf - 2013-01-04 21:59

Well the studies are still in progress but the general consensus is we have a gargantuan mental-health crisis. The causes are many but the consequences are guaranteed - escalating aberrant behaviour. We need the causes addressed and these soul-less individuals removed from society. Permanently.

I tend to agree with Teddy.Beer.319 (First post)

      donald.perumal - 2013-01-04 22:49

@lee.brand.73 Jung argued that a society such as ours suffers because of many things, one is proper formal education, solid family units, community values and a belief system. Most of our institutions are broken hence "things are falling apart".

      lee.brand.73 - 2013-01-05 01:17

Have any of you read Something of Value by Robert Ruark? Around the Mau Mau. Read it about 30 years ago. Basic argument is that African value system has been replaced by a western culture but that doesnt really work here. Need to read it again. Maybe Bigfoot is onto something?

      lacrimose.wolf - 2013-01-05 01:38

@lee.brand.73 - have you ever read the laws of humanity? There are no Big Feet here. Just gargantuan egos and sense of entitlement and zero impulse control. Depravity exists in all cultures, on all continents and has been happening since the dawn of time. The world has plenty of books, studies, assessments and theories. The world still has to find a cure. Causation points to a combination of genetics and circumstance. But there is still no immunisation.

So sick, but so true???? Puzzling...

      lacrimose.wolf - 2013-01-04 23:21

@dominmy - even with 54% of the population being female, all the Charters and quotas etc, our national psyche is still male-dominated. From religion through to tribalism. Many post on issues such as this blaming JZ and his rape acquittal "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" etc. Despite a democracy we still view things in a paternalist manner - there is a man who must tell us and show us what to do. Whilst we have a Constitution, perfectly good laws, policies and procedures. Until we can transcend this mentality of leaders as 'fathers and mothers' and all the abdication of responsibility that goes with it, we're forever destined to see the same aberrant behaviour acted out every single day. When we all acknowledge that we *are* the grown-ups, that is when things will change.

Alan please don't let your hatret for the anc blind you. This things and worse than these are happening all over the world. They may not be tranparent as we are.It sickens me to hear people always commenting about how bad our administration has become since 1994 as if before then it was bliss,it might have been to a minority but hell to the vast majority. So please let's unite and try to build this country.Atleased efforts were made for reconciliation but it seems some of us are farting at it and that is not on.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2013-01-05 08:57

George.mabena146. One thing that puzzles me is the assumption that someone hates the ANC when that person dare to criticize the movement or the government. Saying things happen all over the world is justifying what happens here. We will never be able to unite when the majority keeps their heads buried in the sand instead of calling their leaders to order. Even you can't refrain from falling back on the past and the victim mentality remains lucrative while it serves your purpose. No effort of reconciliation can thrive in that sort of climate.

      alan.delossantos.792 - 2013-01-05 11:35

George.mabena.146- yes crime is everywhere in this world, but not as bad as South Africa. APARTHEID was wrong FACT ***BUT*** so is this shameful government the ANC. They have wasted enough money in their self-indulgents and corruption to build a house for every family in SA since 1994 ****FACT**** Police officers that have very little training and education because they want blk not wht so have very little to chose from as its jobs for the lads (family & friends) Support the ANC if you wont to George but do not support their corruption – poor governing – greed – self-indulgents. Read the news open your eyes and look where the ANC is taking us NOWHERE. Crime and corruption has to stop, but you cannot stop a fire with a can of petrol.

If there were severe consequence then it would stop. The consequence is just a stay in the big hotel , food, sleep and television, no work. All at the taxpayers expense. If they knew they would be thrashed with a shambok, have their privates mutilated beyond use or even the death penalty they wouldn't do it. People pay tax to be protected against criminals. Criminals rule.

Is this another example of JZ's pure African way of doing things? We need a total cleanup, where the political powers need to be a moral example for these morons that can not think further than what their noses are long. If she says no, its rape If she is too intoxicated to talk, it does not mean consent If she is underage she automatically says NO

      Tuyez - 2013-01-05 07:56

Are u saying that morons that shoot people in schools and mall even in the streets in europe and america are doing that because its an european or american way of doing things? For I would say they are just crazy people represent no ways of doing things and doing that in their personal capacity. And remember as white are, blacks are individuals too. No one control their feel and perception of the world. I also believe that your thoughts and feelings about this world are not representing whites thoughs and feelings. Zuma and whosover cannot change or shape people to be criminals. Africans do not approve the raping of their women. Just like how you would about your daughter or your relative or any person if that matters to you , you wont approve the rape of women. Cultures and way of doing things has got nothing to do with criminals.

      hein.huyser - 2013-01-05 08:50

Tyuse, if you do not understant than in SA we have a people that will do as their leaders do then we have a bigger problem than what I thought. With JZ's call to do things the African way, and with the example he upholds, he tells Africans that it is ok to get more than 700 fraud accusations dropped against him, in a very, very fraudulant way, and with a rape trail against him that was a joke, you must not be surprised that people do as he do. He lied to the parlaiment and all the citizens of SA about the gross theft of state resources happening st Nkandla. Now the attitude prevails that if he gets away with it, I can also. You need to realize that we deal with people that think differently than most. Thank goodness we see a lot of people finding their voice that realise its not the end of the world to speak out against bad leaders, and I trust in 2014 we will see a majority telling the JZ's of this world that we all had enough of them

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-01-05 12:31

I agree with Carolyn, why arn't we marching, boycotting, throwing things around, burning tyres, looting and screaming out our anger about all the rapes of old people and infants?? The mob knows how to protest when they want enclosed toilets, increase in wages and better service deliveries - but when it comes to something as serious as rape etc. very little gets done. Is this because it doesn't affect one personally? I'm afraid we're now living in a Godless society where it's "every man for HIMSELF and "If it doesn't affect me, I couldn't care less attitude!

If this government is going to clean up their act, then lets see them start with the Taxi Industry setting down stringent laws for them to obey and secondly rapists and murderers. No bail for this type of crime, let them rot in jail until their court case is finalized. Rapists should get the maximum sentence and its high time these criminals were put to do hard labour. Let them live their life in chains. Raping young children and old grannies is a muti thing and its high time the government educated it people, this is NOT african culture, its disgusting, inhuman, and any rape for that matter. Its time for the people to take the government to task like they are doing in India maybe that might wake them up. We do not have body guards protecting us 24/7 where as government has. Maybe if we all employed a body guard then we can deduct the money from our taxes and it would create a lot more employment. It is one way to jump start it.

      gail.rieck.9 - 2013-01-05 09:55

Unfortunately the government has no intention of "cleaning up their act" they are quite happy in their safe and luxurious bubble of bling, wealth, partying and world travel while South Africa is in total collapse. The ONLY way to sort this out is to VOTE them out of power. Democracy doesn't work, because the uneducated, unemployed and those with nothing to lose masses are able to vote without really thinking. Unfortunately these are the majority! One should have to qualify to be able to vote, those who could lose ie. property owners, professionals, business owners etc.who could and would lose if the wrong people are in power, they would think carefully before voting. This has nothing to do with race as there are plenty of black people who would fall into this category, and plenty of whites who would not be able to vote. But until people start voting with their heads and not out of loyalty we are stuck in this sad situation that we find ourselves in.
