Local newspaper Joburg East Express reported the man was arrested in Yeoville in the early hours of Friday morning.

Yeoville police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji told the community newspaper the man would face two counts of murder and one of rape.

It has been nearly two weeks since the horrific attack on two couples, who were enjoying a picnic and then a stroll through the Johannesburg park when 12 men accosted them, tied up the two men and raped one of the women.

News24 reported the gang then drowned both men.
