Man burns to death in bakkie

2012-05-06 08:02

Cape Town - A man died when his bakkie hit another car and then careened into a tree and caught fire in Cape Town on Saturday evening, emergency workers said.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the accident happened on the Tygervalley Road in Contermanskloof, north of the city.

Emergency workers arrived at the scene to find the driver trapped in his burning bakkie. The driver of the other car was unhurt but shocked.

"Despite efforts to extinguish the flames there was nothing more that they could do to save the man's life and he died in the vehicle," she said.

The Western Cape Emergency Medical Services team put out the fire and removed the man's body.

I read this article and felt shock at what the EMS must have come up against. I scrolled down to the comments and just felt sick to read the post by 'Afrikaaner'.

@Afrikaaner - firstly you are not worthy of that title. Secondly it is spelled Afrikaner. Thirdly you are obviously an idiot with nothing to do but spout verbal diarree. Fourthly take this from this Afrikaner - jy is 'n baie dom donner !!!!

hectic-i live near and the stretch of road is Notorious for deadly accidents-just hope it wasnt someone i know-already lost friends in accidents on this stretch of road

@Afrikaaner. Seeing that you say the team is useless, why not elaborate? Were you on this scene to be able to make a verified statement like that? Sounds to me like you are, in my opinion, a QUALIFIED IDIOT!!!!! @ Colin. Your experience must have been terrible. I once experienced the same kind of incident on the R21 freeway here in Gauteng many years ago, where due to incorrect information, many people lost their lives. We could also not do anything to save the lives of the families involved in the horrific crash, which will stay in my memory forever, especially seeing the little children who died tragically like their parents.

Afrikaaner is not an Afrikaner ! Go check out his FB profile, all hidden for no one to see. Hide behind the face of PW Botha and trying to portray the Afrikaner in a bad way. Sies !!!

The headline is insensitive, whether 100% factual or not.

  • byron.fester - 2012-05-06 17:14

I happenned to pass the accident scene a few hours after it happenned. Unfortunately there was no way to rescue the man, it was a big accident and there was nothing they could have done. So sad.

Mark Mcfadden was the most amazing friend anyone could ever ask for, always there to help and always putting a smile on your face - he was loved by many always helping were he could and going the extra mile, he was a true legend in the racing world. We has the most outstanding brother anyone could ask for, supported David Mcfadden all the way his racing career & will still remain by his side from up above. His parents can be nothing but proud of him - he was the most amazing son a parent could ask for. Its sad to say he was unable to live but I am sure everyone did what ever they could to save his life... I wish my best friend to rest in piece until we meet again :( You will remain for ever in my heart. Forever & Always.... Pinky Promise !!!
