Man charged for raping 10-month-old baby

2013-01-10 22:13

Johannesburg - A man accused of raping his 10-month-old niece appeared in the Orkney Magistrate's Court on Thursday, North West police said.

The case was postponed to 18 January when the 43-year-old man was expected to bring a bail application, said Captain Pelonomi Makau.

He said the baby's mother left the infant with her cousin when she went to work on Tuesday.

The cousin's father took the baby for a walk, but when he returned an hour later she was crying hysterically.

When the cousin changed the infant's nappy she saw marks on her private parts, and thought she had nappy rash.

That night, the child's mother also saw the marks while bathing her.

"The mother took her to a clinic, where the doctor confirmed rape," said Makau.

The matter was reported to the police and they arrested the child's uncle, who had since also been accused of previously raping a family member, he said.

Name and shame this animal!!! Where was the father? Highlights the problem of single mothers who need to work, but their husbands / partners / companions do not seem to want to share in this responsibility.

      squeegee.pilot - 2013-01-11 07:13

And people deny the existence of evil in the world. This is pure evil. Societies need a more effective way of dealing with people such as this - and yes they are people; it does not help to call them animals or creatures.

      stuart.scully.31 - 2013-01-11 10:03

The only way to deal with people like this is to remove them from society, PERMANENTLY!!! BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY !!!

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2013-01-11 10:31

Vishen, what if the father came home from his work?. Every thought of that?

OMGOMGOMGOMG How can this happen????? How can anyone justify to himself and others why he did this terrible thing?? There are no words to express my disgust!!

  • konfab - 2013-01-10 22:30

Such nice people we share our country with... I think punishment for that guy should involve two bricks, surgical tubing and a pair of garden scissors...

      lacrimose.wolf - 2013-01-10 22:53

I am terrified that I live in the world that I can't even leave my infant or any female of any age, with my brother or my husband's brother or a friend of my brother's or pretty much any male at all. The worst is yet to come - the part where a whole bunch of family, friends, employers, etc step up in court and say "what a nice person", "such a good man". Then he gets a suspended because it's the 1st offence he's been caught at, or 7yrs prison, out on 3 for good behaviour (which is secret code for overcrowding). And even if the magistrate has it within the law to hand down 25yrs, all we have in ZA is 25yrs. There is no real 'life imprisonment' let alone 'life without the possibility of parole'. It doesn't matter how many are caught and kudos there are many caught EVERY WEEK, there are still more to take their place. We are now only starting to see the extent of the sicknesses that pervade & replicating faster than bacteria.

      bless.boswell - 2013-01-11 02:08

Why scissors? How about a piece of broken glass?

      bless.boswell - 2013-01-11 02:12

The issue of rape has been glamorized by the president. He has somehow turned this disgusting act into a national sport. He does not have the courage to face the nation and address the issue of rape with those who think its their right - perhaps if he did, they might pay attention. Poor baby - life is crap - now even more so.

      mike.bundy.73 - 2013-01-11 11:42

bles you have highlighted one of the major problems - we need all people in authority to speak out strongly and often against this kind of behaviour. There seems to be the general impression that the current ruling party has no concern at all about these horrific acts.

      bless.boswell - 2013-01-14 09:22

Mike, the problem is that in general, black men feel little for the rights of women - be they 10 months, 10 years or 100 years. If they want they take. This has been glamorized by the president, who evidently feels little for the rights of women, because he does nothing about these crimes. Until he either steps down or changes his stance, we stand little chance of change.

  • suspekt33 - 2013-01-10 22:51

Chemical castration, lock him away and let the maximum level security inmates teach him a lesson... death penalty will take to long...

      croix.mactee - 2013-01-11 03:38

Off with his head! This monster cannot EVER be let loose on society and our children.

      cheryl.childs - 2013-01-11 10:07

Not chemical castration. Physical castration. This bastard deserves nothing less. In fact, he deserves to be staked out naked over an ant heap and covered in sugar.

  • phae.rayden - 2013-01-10 23:01

Where is our President? When does he lead by saying 'No more!', and to make a public example out of this human tokaloshe? When do we hear our leaders voice their horror at this violation of our most innocent, and see them rush to the site of this national shame and tragedy to support the family of this little victim, to assure them all is being done to make sure this doesn't happen again, and that there will be no bail? How much longer do we let these foul human zombies get away with terrorising our countries children. When do we unite and destroy these monsters. Where are the mobs baying for retribution? I am so sorry little one.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2013-01-11 10:38

Phae.Rayden. Our President is too busy sending troops to African nations. He doesn't bother with trivialities like safeguarding the safety of his own people first. He has Cyril Ramaphosa, the newly elected ANC missionary, telling everyone what a great leader Zuma is, while in the meanwhile rape, murder and all these atrocities are allowed to take place. Nothing will change.

  • nick.sailer - 2013-01-10 23:08

There is no doubt in my mind that regardless of what the 'do-gooders', religious liberals, NGO's like AI and the government say. There ARE certain crimes for which the death penalty is the only acceptable punishment. I don't care that people are going to whinge and say that it will never happen in SA, but at least I am saying what I believe most decent honest people are thinking. Alteratively, one can always organise a 'welcoming' party for the perp for when he gets out of prison, and give him a bit of a 'trim' with a sharp pair of secateurs (there are lots of things that can be trimmed and still leave him alive). Just a thought....and don't pretend you didn't think such thoughts yourself.

A 10month old baby????Surely it's high time the ANCWL,concerned citizens across SA and human rights groups raise their concerns to urge the goverment to amend criminal laws which ensure the safety of women, children and elderly citizens.Enough is enough

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2013-01-11 10:48

Tuscartau.tau. The ANCWL is still recuperating after all their efforts to support Zuma during the 'painting' drama. The plight of a ten month old baby do not butter their bread, supporting Zuma brings more than butter, it brings gravy.
