Man critical after electrocution

Pietermaritzburg - A man was hospitalised after he was electrocuted on railway tracks near Pietermaritzburg on Friday, a paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Mering said the man was found down a long embankment, lying next to the track near the CB Downs Road in Kwandeni, Pietermaritzburg.

“Paramedics had to use rope rescue equipment to make their way down to the patient. It was found that he had sustained serious burn injuries to his body.

The man was treated for his injuries and provided with advanced life support.

“The patient was hoisted up the embankment and taken to Edendale Hospital in a serious but stable condition,” Meiring said.

The cause of the incident was not yet known, but police were investigating the matter.
