Johannesburg - A man was killed and five others were injured after a car crashed into the side of a truck in Germiston, paramedics said on Monday.

"Shortly before 20:00 [on Sunday], paramedics arrived on Jan Hofmeyer Street in Germiston where they found the vehicle crashed into the front side of the truck," ER24 said.

"Paramedics resuscitated the man but unfortunately could not revive him."

He was later declared dead on the scene.

The male passenger in the car sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Two women and the two children were found in the back of the car.

"Fortunately they sustained only minor to moderate injuries," ER24 said.

"It is understood that the driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries."

The cause of the accident was not yet known.

Police were investigating.
