Man, friend in court for raping sister

2013-01-03 22:33

Johannesburg - A man and his friend who both allegedly raped the man's 18-year-old sister appeared in the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.

They remained in custody and would be back in court on January 14, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

The 24-year-old brother was arrested on Wednesday and his 29-year-old friend was taken into custody on Tuesday.

They allegedly raped the teen on Sunday.

"The teenage girl was invited by her brother [to] his room at Ceru Location Dyushu Village in Butterworth... Consequently, an incident of incest then ensue[d] as he accosted and raped her," he said.

"We think this was a plan because after he [the brother] finished his friend came in and raped her also."

Meanwhile, Limpopo police were looking for a man who allegedly raped an elderly woman in Ga-Molepo, in the Bethel area, Limpopo police said.

Constable Moses Molepo said the woman, 73, was asleep when the man entered her house through a window on Tuesday night.

Molepo said she was strangled before she was raped. She went to a local police station where she reported the matter.

She was then taken to Mankweng Hospital.

He said the woman was alone in the house when the crime was committed.

Police have launched a manhunt for the man aged between 20 and 40.

      NO NO NO DEATH PENALTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      ronald.stilianou - 2013-01-04 09:36

There is 5 different news stories about someone being raped and it is only 9:31, clearly whatever the current punishment is, is not deterring these monstrosities. Kill them, I for one will look the other way, don't call the police, just cut their throats and drop the bodies in front of the police stations.

  • marinda.ihlenfeldt - 2013-01-03 22:58

What is wrong with these men. How the hell can you even think of raping your own sister and then let your friend also rape her. What is goverment doing about this but of course they see that Zuma hat 10 wives so they think a woman is only a object kill these barbarians they should be taken out the society for good.

      Tuyez - 2013-01-04 05:54

@ marinda you got it all wrong Zuma has got nothing to with this. Zuma has got his wives of which they were not forced to marry him. Plus there is nothing wrong with Zumas life style as an African and a Zulu, and what he is doing is acceptable and part of his culture. Go to kzn and visit the homesteads beside Nkandla, you will find a lot of people with more than one wife.

      Tuyez - 2013-01-04 05:58

Plus incest is never accepted to any nation whether it rape or love. It is wrong and this man a friend must arrested.

      Klaus - 2013-01-04 08:15

@ Tuyez, absolutly no problem with Government Employees have a "alternative" live style - as long as they pay for it out of their own pocket - NOT SO with ZUMA and his cronies, or what am i missing?

      ronald.stilianou - 2013-01-04 09:45

Tuyez. It is in my culture to have slaves. Is it also acceptable according to your reasoning? Don't be late for your 12:00 whipping!...... Not nice if someone uses outdated culture practices to justify something that is clearly wrong today.

      Tuyez - 2013-01-04 13:55

@nu what are you saying? Are telling us your wife is your slave? I thought that was abolished long ago as you have alluded. If someone has chosen to be your slave it doent matter what you do to him or her only to him but the law wont allow that. Zumas wives are nowhere near your comparison. They are free and doing they like with their time. Some of them are working businesswoman. They chose to br his wives they were not force to that. Plus they are not being raped. They there because they love the man. There is no one who has her right violated. His wives knew that Zuma is s polygamist and they are ok with that, unlike your slave thingie where people coerced into slavery and being abducted from their families. His wives are treated like you wife. And much better than how your extra marital affair lover.

      ronald.stilianou - 2013-01-04 15:12

Tuyez, I'm talking about CULTURE and how some practices can not be practiced today, like having more than one wife. You said it's an acceptable practice, it is NOT acceptable on many levels in today's society just like slavery. You are missing the point, and as Marinda said, they have a leader that only sees a woman as an object and not as someone that must be respected. Do you get it now?

      ronald.stilianou - 2013-01-04 15:14

And beside having ten wives, Zuma also raped a girl!, or did you forget about that?

  • rude.awakning - 2013-01-04 05:41

ok! Here is a suggestion. Why dont you fellow countrymen stand together and on their next court date organise a countrywide lunch hour protest either at courts or major police station etc. To show support for the victim and your disgust at the unacceptable behaviour of these rapist!

      sabeer.mahomed.3 - 2013-01-04 05:45

What's that gonna do? Bring back the death penalty? Bring down the hard on of some rapist about to do his filthy deed? How about we start addressing the CAUSES of rape rather than the punishments!

      Tuyez - 2013-01-04 06:00

Anyone who feel like want protest can do thay why countrymen. Involve yourself as well.

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-04 06:03

a collective stand is a starting point! From there starts the lobbying for changes to the law regarding punishment for rape. Your cant do much about preventing these scumbags from raping. Unless you offer him a free voucher to redeem in his local redlight district when he has the urge! Rape must be clasified as a priority crime with a police force trained to deal with these case, from collecting evidence to thorough investigating and prosecuting! When these dogs realise that they cant get away with rape it might serve as a deterent and prevent some rapes. rape in countries applying shariah law is non existent, so take some pointers from them and try it. Surely one less rape will be worth the effort!

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-04 06:08

Rude.awakning. If you are in the US, you could rather join the anti-gun lobby and spend the money your flight would cost on your neighborhood homeless shelter.

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-04 20:08

jacqui, whilst you sit in your armchair and comment on N24 hoping to make a difference. The pro and anti gun lobbies in the US are very active and both have ample support. The US gov can spend trillions of dollars on regime changes on foreign soil, so they can see to the shelters in every neighborhood in the US. I own properties in several provinces in SA and have an interest in the wellbeing of friends and family living their. I am prepared to make a stand as a male and say enough is enough! I do hope you will join and protest in some way!!! Who has info on when their court appearance will be?

  • mart.botha - 2013-01-04 05:47

The high incidence of rapes such as this is clearly symptomatic of an over population (I might even add 'of certain breeds'), and a retardation of society encouraged by the expected (and much touted) subservience of women, and man's mistaken entitlement. Add to this the underlying violence of the act of rape and it becomes very frightening that South Africa are the 'World Rape Champions'. I cannot help but add that there is absolutely no way on God's green earth that a man can have 5 wives and not commit 'hari kiri' without the implied forced subservience of said wives. This 'culture' is passed on to the young and the restless.....and becomes a threat (which supports my contention of overpopulation because some will say not all 'potential transgressors' cross the line, and this is true...good parenting I'm sure is the answer to that one ie. discipline)

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-04 06:46

what hogwash! Explain the population in china and their rape stats. Bill Clintons actions didnt result in a higher divorce rate or infidelity. Your ''certain breed'' comment smacks of racism! rape knows no boundries race, culture, breed, creed, nationality, religion or biggots! St helena Island (british rule) with its tiny (around 5000) population has had major rape problems! Stop finding pointless excuses that seems to justify rape! Speak out and outcast rapist for every effort is worth it even if it prevents ONE rape!

      Tuyez - 2013-01-04 08:20

I dont think you know what you are talking about. Shove it man.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2013-01-04 09:41

Rude Awakning, we don't know the rape stats of China. Bill Clinton couldn't possibly have influenced the divorce rate or infidelity of the U.S. it's among the highest in the world. Just as rape is. You are not exactly in moral heaven are you?.

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-04 20:15

jacqui , neither are you if you agree with the hogwash, or are you one of those that will blame the ruling party at every change you get and dont bother to make a difference because the more blame we can lay on president and ruling party the better!

What makes me angry is it was all for a stupid painting , a stupid f-in picture. Why can't the government take the same stance against Rape! this is a serious issue that spills across 16 days. I'm tired of these stories, as a women I am also afraid because the odds of being raped are higher than getting arrested for not paying TV license! Enough is enough!

      Erna - 2013-01-04 06:49

I hear you Minah. You forgot to mention the anc women's league who only has something to say when they 'protect' zuma, but are silent in the case of our national pasttime - rape. In fact, this would also be a perfect issue to be tackled by the minister of children, women, etc. She only manages to surface on the 9th of August every year. I saw this last night - but - after listening to Aubrey Masango discussing the rape scourge in South Africa, I did not have the energy to comment. This is so sad and I, the woman of many words, am running out of words! Everyday there are more and more rapes happening! Desensitized, demoralised, dehumanised! Thats is the state of our nation today. Rape is a heinous crime. It is the ultimate degradation heaped on women who cannot defend themselves. So we look to our fathers and brothers to protect us and be there to defend us! Then is this not the worst story ever? Here is a brother who instead of killing his friend for trying to rape his sister becomes part of the rape scenario? We are delusional if we think any "Cleansing Ceremony" will wipe this away. Rape is becoming the norm in South Africa - it is a part of our lives......

  • tropiqueanna.eylande - 2013-01-04 08:03

Castrate them after brutal torture with hot rods where the moon don't shine. Freaking donkeys! Then throw them in a tank filled with baby piranhas to slowly kill these bastards: JUSTICE... I don't know why our courts think sending someone to jail will rehabilitate an evil conscience; because jail is a retreat for people who commit the most terrible crimes; they get a nice bed, three-star food service and if they're lucky, they drop the soap in beautiful showers. Unfair tax-usage!

  • bongani.mtshali.1460 - 2013-01-04 08:08

This is a thoughtless and idiotic response by someone who is really shallow how does this heinous crime link up with Jacob Zuma? Why can we not be thoughtful before we just comment senselessly , this is disappointing.

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-05 06:51

gumede, i agree! Rape has been a problem in society for as long as i can recall, it took place under the rule of the worldwide respected Nelson Mandela, Mbeki, De Klerk, Botha, as far back as under Hertzog. It is waisted energy to blame the ruling party for rape. The problem is in societies that act like their hands are tied and lay blame elsewhere! Im not suggesting mob justice, but these communities can mobilise against the perpetrator/s and make sure that another is going to think twice before attempting! One get the impression that there's pockets of anti-government groups that just wait to balme things on it. I have seen comments of ''vote DA and things will change''... when rape, drugs, robberies, theft, gangsterism and crime in general is just as prevelant in the Western Cape. Who's kidding who?

Rape is not about sex, it is about a weak person who has no control in everyday life, so they pick on someone whom they know they can physically subdue, its about inflicting pain and humiliation. Unwanted sex is a degredation to the recipient, the ultimate victory for a simple minded bully.
