Johannesburg - A man convicted of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances was sentenced to life imprisonment by the KwaZulu-Natal High Court, provincial police said on Tuesday.

Captain Thulani Zwane said 30-year-old Xolani Sifiso Mtshali also received 15 years in prison for robbery with aggravating circumstances and another 15 years for attempted murder on Monday.

Mtshali shot dead a motorist and wounded his passenger in January.

"He held the two at gunpoint, tied the driver with his shoelaces and forced them into the back seat of their car before driving to a secluded place in Lindelani sugarcane field where he shot them."

He robbed them off their belongings and fled in their vehicle.

Until the next amnesty, that is. My guess is that he will be out in 5 to 7 years.
