Johannesburg - The Bizana Regional Court sentenced a 38-year-old Pakistani man to life for rape on Tuesday, Eastern Cape police said.

Captain Mlungisi Matidani said shop owner Faeed Munir started raping the girl in 2008, when she was 12-years-old.

"He threatened her not to tell anyone, saying he would use his rituals on her family," Matidani said.

"He continued to rape the young girl until she took a stand in February 2012 and wrote a letter to her mother.

"A case of rape was immediately opened at the court and he was arrested."

He said the girl and her family tried to withdraw the case, but the State pursued it.

"The man was the girl's older sister's boyfriend.
