Johannesburg - The bloodied body of an 11-year-old girl was found next to her seriously injured friend in a shack in Limpopo at the weekend, police said on Tuesday.

"A 27-year-old man is due to appear in the Bolobedu Magistrates' Court this morning [Tuesday], following the discovery..." Colonel Ronel Otto said in a statement.

Otto said 11-year-old Hermanda Masia, and her friend were visiting another friend, a 20-year-old woman, in Bokhuta village in Bolobedu South.

"The 20-year-old woman left the house to go to church early on Sunday morning, but when she returned she found the door to the house broken down and both girls missing," said Otto.

"After asking around, she received information that the girls were seen in the same village at the shack of the 27-year-old suspect."

She entered the shack and found both girls covered in blood, naked, and not moving.
Masia was later declared dead.

Her seriously injured friend was taken to hospital.

The shack owner faces charges of murder, kidnapping and housebreaking.

A post mortem will establish whether the child was raped.

The girl who survived the attack will be questioned as soon as she is able to communicate.
