Mbombela - An Mpumalanga man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 76-year-old man and stuffing his chopped body inside a freezer belonging to an old age home in the area.

According to Pienaar police spokesperson, Jabu Ndubane, the 20-year-old, from a township near Mbombela, was out on bail for four charges of murder when the elderly man was killed.

"The man's body parts were discovered on Wednesday afternoon after a part of his flesh, which was thrown into a drum because it clearly could not fit in the freezer, started stinking, attracting attention, prompting community members to call police.

"We have established that the old man, only known as Mkhulu, was killed, then had his body chopped and stuffed into a freezer," Ndubane told a News24 correspondent on Thursday.

The old man was last seen a week ago, he said.

Ndubane said the freezer was used to keep mixed chicken portions for the old age home.

"Police were only led to the [suspect] after he had just stabbed his sister, demanding her placenta and heart. Luckily she survived the stabbing and the suspect was arrested," Ndubane said.

He was expected to appear in the Kabokweni Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of murder and attempted murder.

"As he was out on bail, we also expect him not to be given bail since he violated his bail conditions," said Ndubane.
