Man held for ANC councillor's murder

Durban - A man was arrested for allegedly shooting dead an ANC councillor and wounding two other people during a meeting in Welbedacht, near Chatsworth, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.

Colonel Vincent Mdunge said a 32-year-old man was caught on Thursday in the Pinetown area.

ANC councillor Mthembeni Shezi, (also known as Msizeni Ximba), branch deputy chairperson Sbu Mpanza, and ward committee member Bulelani Mjoli, were wounded when two men entered a hall at the Imbaliyethu High School during a meeting on Wednesday night and started shooting.

Shezi died in hospital on Thursday morning. The motive for the attack was not known.

Mdunge said the man was found in possession of a homemade handgun which would be taken for ballistic testing.

"The suspect will be charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder. He will appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate's Court on Monday."

Mpanza and Mjoli were recovering in hospital. Shezi was a councillor and an ANC branch chairperson.

    Can I give the Accused my wish list!! You must understand the accused was previously disadvantaged they should give him a house and a car and a Position as a minister at least!!!
