Johannesburg - A 55-year-old man was arrested in connection with a stolen car in Ekhombe on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Police spokesperson Jay Naicker said the police went to a house in the area during their crime operation.

"The vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was found and after an examination it was discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen to the Johannesburg Central police station in December."

He said that in a separate incident two men, aged 55 and 67, were arrested on a charge of illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Two 9mm pistols with a total of 27 live rounds of ammunition were found at their homes.

The three were expected to appear in the Ekhombe Magistrate’s Court later on Thursday.

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni appealed to the community to continue providing information to the police regarding illegal firearms in the province.

"From our investigation it was found that these men had openly flaunted their illegal weapons. However, those that lived around them did not report their illegal activities to police as we would have expected," she said.
