Johannesburg - A man was arrested in Zola, Soweto, on Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old girl, Gauteng police said.

She was taken on Saturday and kept until Tuesday night, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

"The man [allegedly] locked her inside his house in Zola and went to work. The girl managed to find a phone and alert her parents," he said.

Her parents opened a case with police, who carried out a search.

The girl was found on Tuesday night.

"She had [allegedly] been repeatedly raped," said Makhubela.

The 23-year-old man was due to appear in court soon.

Makhubela did not immediately have details of where the girl was kidnapped from, or how it happened.
