Johannesburg - A 42-year-old man was arrested in connection with attempted murder in Zola, Soweto, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

The man was taken into custody after he allegedly fired a shot at a woman who had been demanding money from him on Tuesday, said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

"The man is an ex-offender. He was sentenced to nine years for murder in 1992."

Makhubela said he would also be charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and theft, as he had been on the wanted list.

He would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court within 48 hours, said Makhubela.
