Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for fraud after allegedly using another person's identity document to try and open an account at a Game store in Heidelberg, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

The incident happened after midday on Sunday, said Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate.

The man was opening an account to buy goods including a television set, a home theatre system, a fridge and sleeper couch.

"It is alleged that while the store was verifying [his information], it was detected that the buyer/purchaser is not the same as the owner of the identity book presented before them," said Tshilate.

The store's management locked the man inside a room and reported it to police.

Tshilate said he attempted to escape from the room through the ceiling, but was stopped by the store's security.

The man is due to appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate's Court soon.
