Man impaled in Pretoria building

Johannesburg - A man was killed on Sunday afternoon in Pretoria after being impaled by iron rods in a disused building, Tshwane metro police said.

"It is suspected that the man had by-passed the security officers at the flats and was attempting to steal some iron or copper parts at the high-rise buildings situated in the west of the Tshwane CBD," spokesperson Console Tleane said in a statement.

The man, in his 30s, apparently slipped while on one of the upper floors of the Kruger Park building at about 17:30.

"He went down through to the bottom floor where he unfortunately landed on iron rods that pierced through his body," said Tleane.

The man was declared dead on the scene.

The building and the adjacent Schubart Park building, both owned by the City of Tshwane, are to be implosed after being found to be structurally unfit for habitation.

Police were investigating, Tleane said.

    What does implosed mean?

      Wimpie.Haefele - 2012-06-25 08:04

Implosion is a process in which objects are destroyed by on themselves. It is like an inward explosion

      juan.cornelius.9 - 2012-06-25 08:08

Grant, Implosed means that the building will be demolished by use of explosives. Very spectacular, bet also very dangerous.

      Peter - 2012-06-25 08:26

You have all go it wrong. Implosion is the opposite of explosion. It means that a building is collapsed, using explosives, within or very close to within its own perimeter/footprint. Implosion can also mean that a vessel/structure that has a vacuum inside can collapse inwards if the structure is damaged (eg a television tube).

You all really fell for that? I could see the sarcasm dripping on my screen at the question. He was trying to catch SAPA / N24, and implying that the word should be implode(d). Its Monday people. The weekend is over. Splash them faces and wake up lmao. BUT, the egg is on his face now, innit?

      tgif.wtfaw - 2012-06-25 10:50

Implosed is not a word, just check it on your spell checker to start with. Imploded is the word you were looking for.
