Man jailed for 15 years for daughter's rape

2013-04-19 19:40

Durban - A KwaZulu-Natal father has been jailed for 15 years by the Empangeni Regional Court for raping his daughter, police said on Friday.

Colonel Vincent Mdunge said the man was sentenced on Thursday.

He raped his then 14-year-old daughter twice in May last year, at his house in the Macekane area, Empangeni, where she had gone to visit him with her two siblings.

Mdunge said the man dragged his daughter from the mattress she was sleeping on and raped her in his bed.

He raped her again in the early hours of the morning.

"She escaped after the second rape and fled to the bush, where she hid until sunrise.

"She was later rescued by a neighbour, who contacted the girl's mother."

The man was arrested four days later at his homestead in Nseleni, Empangeni.

  • Celeste de Lange - 2013-04-19 23:23

Rapists should be castrated and hanged. Especially if you rape your own child.

  • Sue Heymans - 2013-04-19 23:48

The poor child... 15 years of freedom for her. Hope he is never let out.

I'm just wondering why in the US, every state is entitled to choose what they want as a penalty for a certain crime, why can't we have that here and have a death penalty for 1st degree murder and drug sales and smuggling, life for manslaughter, castration for rape, amputation for theft and fraud? Oops,I forgot, we need to first CATCH the guilty ourselves as the SAPS only do paperwork and stamp affidavits amongst other things like drag traffic offenders behind police vehicles and killing protesters when they're striking for their own demands. Show me a time when a police unit came in the middle of gangsters shooting at each other when its in the heat of the moment? That being said,I know,in many cases there are those who pride themselves in doing their utmost to serve and protect their communities they're responsible for. I think the reason judges are sentencing perpetrators to lesser terms are that prisoners cost the state something like R3000 per month each and then there is still overcrowding as well. Let's look at the world and see who has the least prisoners and see why. Surely there must be a lesson learnt from that!

      Rude Awakning - 2013-04-20 06:32

TG,the US of A is a federation of states, not made up of provinces. With the federal government responsible for some laws whilst the individual states are responsible for others, obviously certain protocols are followed to avoid the two clashing. Don't think for one second that these kind of dastardly acts don't take place in the US despite the death penalty and brilliant police work! These sick bastards that rape must get the message from their communities that they are not tolerated in society and banished to be raped in prison for life! Swines!!!

  • Lesego Victor Phetla - 2013-04-20 05:08

I hope what he did to the poor child is done on him 3 times a day,for the next 15 years.

  • Rude Awakning - 2013-04-20 06:38

I hope the bastardo is not eligible for parole and that he get to serve his full jail term!let's see how getting raped in jail will rehabilitate him! He might get an acute understanding of how degrading it is to be forced to commit the act without a choice! Haba Haba! Don't drop the soap! B#tch!

In south Africa there's law unfortunate with no justice

  • Karen Landman-Taylor - 2013-04-20 07:38

Lovely- he is out in 10 years and continues as normal. His daughter faces a life sentence of quiet desperation.

  • Coert Welman - 2013-04-20 08:05

And what about the poor girl? Her life is ruined. Completely skewed image of what a father figure should look like. Cut off and throw away.

  • Thami Mzamo - 2013-04-20 08:31

The Man is sick, if he can rape his own Daughter. After saving his time on jail, what will stop him to rape any women?

  • Siyaphi Masilela - 2013-04-20 08:55

    This Bustard.

  • Janice Pienaar - 2013-04-20 10:11

I'm not sure if 15years are enough punishment for the crime, its his own flesh and blood! When he gets out , who's going to be he's next victim? He'll be strong enough to do it again

  • Jacqui Daane Van Rensburg - 2013-04-20 11:06

Now let's see how he likes what is coming to him in prison.

  • Walter Sbv Thwala - 2013-04-20 12:56

I never thought an incest was existing in this planet- earth people are really cruel as for this man let him rote in jail actually he deserves more than he was given

  • Nicole Rego de Matos - 2013-04-20 13:49

I'd say give a rapist the sentence based on the amount of years that child would normally live after the rape. If she was 14, she still has about 70 years to live. Give him 70 years because that's what he has robbed of her - those aree the years she will be petrified, frightened with nightmares and never trust a man completely, she'll have fears that were never there before. My comment is applicable to child rapists, but those who rape other people deserve a harsher punishment too - I'd say 15 years for molestation, at least 50 years for rape.

      Sna Ngwenya - 2013-04-21 00:31

Rape is so painfull , the 15yrs is nothing at all
