Man killed after stabbing W Cape cop

Johannesburg - A man was shot and killed after allegedly stabbing a traffic officer in Brackenfell, Cape Town, Western Cape police said on Sunday.

"Yesterday [Saturday] morning at around 05:30 a traffic officer arrested a suspect for driving under the influence of alcohol at the Okavango off-ramp on the N1, Brackenfell," spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said.

The man, identified as Kyle Weideman, 22, apparently stabbed the officer with a knife during the arrest. The officer then shot and killed him.

The details surrounding the officer's condition were not available.

The circumstances of the arrest and shooting were being investigated.
