Johannesburg - A man was killed when he fell from a trailer on the R33 in New Hanover, in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday evening, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the man was standing on the back of the trailer that was hooked behind a tractor.

"They went over a hump in the road when the man lost his footing and fell into the gap between the tractor and trailer... Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the trailer wheels had gone over the patient," he said.

Botha said the man, in his 40s, died at the scene due to the extensive injuries he sustained.

sad mistake not taking better care not to put oneself in unecessary danger. condolences to his family - the man was working earning a living so it is sad. hopefully his work colleagues can learn for the future to take better care when on the road. shame.

@Len Sadly the rules already exist in this country but nobody enforces them. Until they invent pills that you can take for stupidity, Darwin's rules will apply.

Isn't it illegal to transport people in or on trailers? Just another example of our disregard for the rules of the road.

This not a freak accident at all. A "tractor" indicates a rural road, likely full of big humps. A trailer is not made with a comfy suspension in mind, but sprung to carry heavy loads. Tragic accident, is more like it. He will have dependants, now what of them?
